Richard Medlock/Matlock was born in Granville, NC about 1761, child of Nicholas and Mary Shelton Medlock/Matlock.

Pension Records filed in Hawkins County, TN 4 October 1832 say he entered service in the Revolutionary War in 1779 in Burke, North Carolina under Capt. John Montgomery and Col. McDowell. He served again under Capt. Henry Reed and Col. Holmes then under Capt. Alexander Irwin, General Davidson and Major Pope then finally under Capt. William Nail and Col. McDowell until the end of 1781.

Richard first married in Burke County, NC - I am looking to find the name of his first wife. Together, they apparently had 3 sons and 3 daughters before she died. I am looking to identify these children. Richard then married Mary Waddle/Weddle in 1804 and had 8 more children. He died in 1838 in Hawkins County, TN. Mary and the rest of the family went to Jackson County, IN.

In his Pension Application, Richard claimed his birth could be proved in his father's Bible which was in the possession of brother-in-law, Notley Thomas and that he was acquainted with Rev. Wm. C. Reynolds, John rogers and Lewis Click, Esq.

Any help in further identifying this family would be greatly appreciated! I have charted what I could on my webpage, shown below.
