Classification: Query
Surnames: Dunagan
John Dunagan [Dunnigan] Dunnegon.
I found this information on John Dunagan sr.
Born cir 1735 Essex Virgina alleged s/o Timothy Dunagan yet maybe Thomas Dunagan's son.
Died 1808 Mt Airy Surry North Carolina.

Married Elizabeth Selby
Children:
1. JOhn Dunagan Jr.b March 15 1775 died Sept 24 1813 Tennesse
2. Jesse Dunagan born 1756 NC died in South Carolina. [not sure of him
3. Justice Dunagan [definately]born 1775 died Surry NC about 1835
4. William Dunagan cir 1776 NC

6. Ezekiel Dunagan Born 1779
7. Samuel Sunagan cir 1785 lived Lincoln Tennesse
8. Hiram Dunagan [maybe cir 1785 died cir 1835 [at says Dickson Tennesse on most records however I think it may be Jersey Illinois
9. Martin Dunagan unknown

I do not find anyone who claims to have daughters born to this John Dunagan Sr, yet there probably was.

There is both Thomas and Timothy Dunagan mentioned in records in 1740-1756 in land court documents and land deeds for Thomas. Timothy himslef is mentioned 7 times in court documents in about5 years prior to his death in 1756

1751 Timothy Dunagan is ordered to continue with Archie Ritchie, administrator of John Livinston Jr. deceased ,until the next court session..Essex County Order book 18-233 1753

1756 Essex Timothy sues Robert Seayres for trespass, assauly and battery. Trial continued because the petitioner 'prays leave" [more to it 21-252 1754
1756 Essec Refeference trial for assualt and battery in Timothy Dunagan vs Robert Seayers showing the defendent plead not guilty
1756 Hanry and Archibald Ritchie exceute a 50 pound not before court making an inventory of the estate of Timothy Dunnican if no will and testement is found
1757 Essex reference to battery in Timothy Dunniacn and Robert Seayres suit dismissed by order

It not only appears this Timothy Dunagan was granted land in North Carolina..by land deeds. Yet he lived in NC from 1752 to 1756 he had an indenture on him to work for John Livinston Jr. without paying off this indenture to be granted lands. It also seems coiscidential that he brought assualt and battery cahrges not long before he died. I wonder if he could have received serious injury and body harm in that assualt.

Yet whether John is the son of Timothy is not known because some have him as the s/o Thomas Dunagan..though others do not.

Some researchers allege that Timothy and Thomas are the same person because there is no land deeds for Timothy. Yet if had an indenture to John Livinston Jr. he may not have been granted any..before he died.

Thomas Dunagan was ch 16 june 1706 Limerick Ireland
Little is known about Thomas's brother William Dunagan ch 10 Jan 1703 St John's Limerick Ireland and where he went to..so unless he shows up in NC or proof Timothy does not belong to him we are uncertain if he is the son of this William or their father William Dunagan.

No records show no one knows for sure if William Dunagan Senior came to Essex Virginia at all or stayed in Ireland and died there.

Possibly someone may soon find some records. However many were destroyed in times of wars etc.
