Does anyone know the location of grave
for Charles Edwards 1785-1858. The grave marker
posted on line has no documentation. William Masters
Edwards, my neighbor in Southern Pines, and I have
gone over the Greene County sites and what little
we know of Lenoir County. What I really need is an
obituary! Bob Tate : bobtate@msn.com

John Luscoleet, Rev War pension for Va. 8th. Inf?
There's about 12 different references for this same John on Family Search *each* one with a different spelling for the surname. One reads; # 5442--Samuel Hutchison with additional names; Betsy Wilkerson, David Fraim, George Hutcheson, Gray L Parsell, James Smith, john Blag, John Luscoleet, Margaret Hutchison, Polly Hutcheson, Robert Bridwell, Samuel Hutcheson, Thomas McClure, William Hutchison, William Wilson.
He seems to be connected through his Revolutionary Service to the Wilson's of Rockbridge and Botetourt Co's of Va. who were originally from Cecil County Maryland and were intermarried with the Hutchison/Hutcheson and Wilkerson/Wilkenson/Wilkinsons. Families of Samuel and Elizabeth Wilson and Son Ephraim (among other of his children).
I would be interested in any other information, particularly concerning these families.
Thank-you.

Hello ... I will be glad to share what I have about Redding Moore. Unfortunately, the identity of his parents has never, to my knowledge, been established.

I know that Redding Moore and his wife, Ann, moved to the area of Florence, SC (then known as Marion District)around 1815. He purchased land near the area now known as Mars Bluff, and there is a crossroads today known as Moore's Crossroads in that area.

Ann apparently died around 1829, and Redding married Nancy (Jones?).

Redding was a minister of the Free Will Baptist denomination in NC, and was the founder of the Free Will Baptist churches in SC. He died around 1849.

Blaney was a son of Nancy and Redding. He was a sergeant in the Confederate Army, and I believe he died in a prison camp. I do have a picture that is said to be of him.

That is a summary, but I do have more detailed information about his family and a couple of areas where he owned land.

Before going into a cemetery with a metal detector, you should take a look at the NC Cemetery Statutes. In some cases you could be charged for disturbing a gravesite.

Please let me know if you know the land owner and possibly we could get together and search it together. Waiting for your reply. Ron

It states that Hunt Furniture handled the funeral arrangements and that he was buried in Speights Bridge. Did not state a cemetery. LAND was buried on 2/10/1934.

His death occurred on 2/9/1934 and his death record only indicates the name of town (Speights Bridge) where he was buried. Born 8/28/1859 in Henry County, NC to parents John Land and Martha (SHACKLEFORD). William was married to Elizabeth Mary (STEVENS); they were parents to Etta Mae, Mattie, Annie, Nettie, Mamie and Emma.

Any suggestions or guidance would be most appreciated.
Thank you in advance, Kem

I know of one brother Arthur who was married to Dillie Anne Dixon. They were born in the Walstonburg area. His father name was John Darden as well. His mother's name is unknown. I am curious as to if he had any additional siblings other than Arthur and information on his mother. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dulcey

Has anyone tried using a metal detector on the property? They might be able to get signals of buttons or jewelry and if they were buried correctly, there will be a pattern. Someone in the area must have one, maybe in the group. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

Roger Kammerer took me to the location of the house several years ago. I think it was at the north east side of the intersection of hwy 222 and the Old River Rd near Belvoir. We believed that the old cememtery was near the location of the old home place but I never could find any sign of it. Is this where you think the foundation of the house was at?

Do you know the location of the old Bensboro Cemetery in Pitt County where the Graves were moved from. I have been looking for that spot for many years. I believe I have found where the main house was but can't find the cemetery where Mrs. Atkinson moved the remains from. I would really appreciate any help on this.

Thanks Ron

The cemetery is on Bruce St. and it is residential. From the courthouse in downtown Snow Hill take SE Second St., which is also Hwy 258 S.. Bruce Street is across the street from the Snow Hill Primary School. There is a wood frame house on the corner and the cemetery is right behind it. The cemetery has a fence around it and is usually cleaned up so that you can walk in it. Hope this helps.

There will be a short dedication service on Sunday, October 30th at 5:00 PM at the Captain Jack and Elizabeth Murphrey Cemetery. This will be very casual and is anticipated to last about ½ hour at the most. Please keep in mind this area is in the middle of a field when choosing your attire. Directions are as follows: From Snow Hill, NC take highway 91 past Greene Central High School, take a right on Middle School Rd and continue about ¼ mile. The Cemetery will be on the right. Parking will be near the highway in a yard beside a white mobile home. It is about a 100 yard walk down a path to the cemetery. We will have a golf cart available to shuttle anyone who has trouble walking that distance or has trouble on unlevel ground. We will also have seating for those who need it. We will have light colonial “period correct” refreshments after the dedication. Anyone who would be willing to help with refreshment please contact me. I ask that you please RSVP by Oct 18th if you and your family will be attending. Please let me know how many people will be attending with you so we can prepare the proper amount of refreshments. Even if you have told me you would be there, please send another email to confirm. Also please pass this info to others who do not have email. I also need your cell phone number, in the event of bad weather. If we have bad weather, we will meet at Mt Herman United Methodist Church ( near Lizzie) located at 4703 Hwy 258 N from Snow Hill NC 28580. Thanks again for everyone’s help in making this a success. I feel we have successfully preserved this area for future generations, and perhaps to some extent righted a wrong done when the Union Soldiers destroyed the original tombstones.

For further information contact: Louis Dail 252-714-5757
It was really sad today to hear that Ruth Fentress had passed away. I regret that I never met Ruth in person but she always made me feel that we were close friends. She was always so willing to help me with genealogy in any way that she could. We would talk on the phone for an hour or more on some occasions and after she started working with a computer she would call me up to ask me to help her with some computer related problems. She had such a kind voice and when she would call and I would answer the phone, she would just say "Mike" and I knew instantly it was Ruth. Although she lived in Maryland she was a great help to us in getting the Greene County Heritage Book published. I wanted to include her name in the dedication section of the book but she asked me not to do that. I told her I would honor her wishes but she deserved to be included. I will miss Ruth but maybe now she is in a place where she can get the answers to some of those family questions that we used to work on.

Mike Edge
