Trying to locate descendants of and/or information concerning the Shoecraft & Milton families in Guilford. William Shoecraft (c1749-1830s) moved to Guilford in the 1820s from Hertford Co., NC, by way of Orange Co.; his wife was Bicey Nickens (also d. 1830s). Children: Silas (1781-1870, m. Polly Tester), Sarah (m. Mills Milton), Tabitha (m. Josiah Robbins), James (m. Mary Anna Milton), Elias, Tatum, and Susan (m. a Flood). Silas, Sarah, Tabitha, and James all raised families in Guilford before moving to Indiana, mostly Wayne Co., in the 1840s. Last remaining Shoecraft in central NC appears to have been Simeon Shoecraft, b. c1831/33, presumably s/o Andrew J. Shoecraft & Jeroney Keeter. He died in Guilford in 1915, leaving a family.
The Miltons were also from Hertford Co. and migrated to Guilford via Orange. Mills Milton (b. c1776) married first Sarah Shoecraft, second Louisa Milton (his cousin), and third in 1843 in Guilford to Polly Mumphed. He died sometime in the 1860s; his widow Polly was still living in Oak Ridge Twp. as late as 1880. His older children followed their Shoecraft kin to Indiana. Mills's younger brother was presumably Martin Milton (c1790-1864) who m. 1837 in Guilford to Matilda Goings. Martin died owning 47.5A on Buffalo Creek in Guilford, and his ten children remained in the area: Mary Ann (m. Lindsay Donnell), Pleasant Hosea (m. Nancy McCollum), Henry W. (m. Minerva Jane Kimmons), Peyton M. (m. Margaret Dyson), Frank Simpson, Lucinda, Nancy C., Noble W., Joseph (m. Alice Dyson), and James (m. Jennie Doggett).
Would be delighted to correspond with descendants of either family, either in Guilford or in Indiana.
