I have a little on your John Ludwig CLAPP, Jr. He
was born abt 1742 in Berks Co, PA. He came to the Orange
Co, NC area with his parents about 1745-1748. His wife, Sophia Catherine ALBRIGHT was also born in Berks Co, PA. She was baptized 3 Sep 1749, Reformed Church, Berks Twp, Berks Co, PA. This family moved to NC about 1763. Ludwig died 20 Jan 1834 and Catherine died in 1821. Both are buried at Brick Church which was founded by Ludwig's father and uncle.

Ludwig served in the Revolution (Pension #5147). At
one time he served under his brother, Lt. Jacob CLAPP (my
ancestor). Both brother fought in Battle of Guilford
Courthouse. Ludwig's wife and family were said to have been
harrassed by Tories who destroyed all the crops and stole
everything from the barn.

John Henry CLAPP was a Captain in the War of 1812.
He was a scholar who could read and write both English and
German (unusual at that time).

The above information came from the
Albright/Clapp/Burk book by Joseph H. Vance.

Ludwig's father was one of the founders of Brick Church in what is now Guilford Co. There is a RootsWeb mailing list for that church and its people. The website of that mailing list is
