I am interested in this family because I have speculated that Nancy Worrell (daughter of Amos) may have married Ivy (or Ivory) Gammon, a distant uncle of mine. It is true the Worrell family and the Gammon family lived near each other, and I can account for all the other male Gammons in that time period. Ivy Gammon moved to Jackson County, Florida, and was there at the time of the 1850 census, but it appears his wife had already died.
Like you, I have wondered why Amos seems to divide up the legacies to his various children. I had speculated that perhaps Milly and Nancy no longer lived in the area, as he left them "any interest I may have in a parcel of Negroes on the Yadkin River in North Carolina."
I have a bit of information (not much, really) on the Simmons line - would gladly share.
