There were some towns along the Warren/Halifax Co. border that often the citizens would file their records in whichever locality was the closest to them. In colonial times, the town of Halifax was where the local court was located for the surrounding counties, so in later times, often major court disputes were still handled by that court, mostly referred to as the Halifax District. Military disbursements from the Revolutionary War for citizens of Halifax Co., were often collected in what was called the Warrenton District. Many landholders for either of these Counties had land that spanned the borders and record of them can also be found in the various County land and tax records because of that. Even up through the 20th Century, the town of Littleton, spanned both Warren & Halifax, until it was decided that it would officially be considered in Halifax Co. And the more recent town of Roanoke Rapids, officially in Halifax, shares a border with Northampton, and where one will often find citizens from both Counties, I am sure that the same thing was the case down through the centuries for other towns along that border, too.
