Don:

Is this the John buried in the Dupree family cemetery in Lee County, Alabama? I believe his wife was Sarah and he was the father of John Nelson Dupree (b. about 1830 in Georgia, possibly Houston County), who married Mary Eleanor Lockhart, but would appreciate any additional info you might have. I've got a lot of info on John Nelson's descendents and would be happy to share if that's your line.

I am really hoping there is someone who monitors this board that can do a couple obit look-ups for me.

Need obits for:
(1)Margie E. Baldwin, death January 2, 2005.
(2)Kenneth Rudolph Baldwin, death April 24, 1990

They are entered on Find A Grave in Harnett Memorial Park Cemetery, Lillington, Harnett Co, North Carolina.

These are the parents of my 1st cousins husband. He was not raised around his parents to any extent and has little knowledge of them. I am trying to help him find further info on a family he knew little about growing up. Obits (especially) and further info greatly appreciated!!
Hi Alan,

I'm quite sure you've found your roots.

But for the public record, your grand-dad Harlan was the son of Wilbur Emmanuel, in turn the son of Emmanuel who was son of Thomas Benoy and Jane Hix/Hicks of England.

Thomas 1833-1900 was from Werrington, Devon and Jane 1831-1916 was born in Cornwall.

The name Benoy was badly written & therefore mistranscribed on a number of U.S. censuses on Ancestry.com.

As for Thomas & Jane's family, I've managed to find most of them on the censuses and made the corrections for Benoy desc. to find them easily.

cheers,
pamela

Hello Emily,

Having a hard time finding anything listed or labeled as such. Even USGS does not give alot of the branch names.

If you are able to scan and attach the deed, I will see if I can get a better reading on that word. Or Book and Page number.

Lots of times a deed will list a prior conveyance by book and page. If you can track it back to an earlier transfer )(or later), lots of times you can get a better listing of the names and details.

Some of the deeds for the sale and purchase of land by members of the Moore family refer to a "Branch" that is apparently west of "Black" Mingo, the river or swamp that divides Johnston and Harnett Counties.

It is difficult to make out the name of the Branch. Is it Bolo, Bala, Bald, Bold, Bota, or something else? If you are familiar with this watercourse, does it have a new name now? Can you tell me where it is located with reference to current roads and other landmarks?

He married Jane Coggin or Coggins in the early 1840's in Chatham co NC. they also lived in Moore co NC next to Chatham co NC.
the A & W (Atlantic and Western) Railroad, ran its 24 mile journey twice daily from Sanford to Lillington. I first heard of the A & W while doing census research on my family. At the top of the page it was noted that the area covered by the census was "North of the A & W".

My grandfather also settled there with her and they are both buried in Redondo Beach. I just keep hitting dead ends. Again thank you for your help.

Yes the Stewart's Creek in Harntt County. I never heard of Stewart's Creek in Cumberland County, NC unless your thinking about Cedar Creek or Grays Creek. Ther are a lot of areas in Nc that have the name Creek in them. There is a township called Stewart's Creek also. The town of Bunnlevel is in it. and Torquil is a desendant of that "Black" Neill McNeill.

Didn't know about the Indian Settlement. I've considered the Buie's Creek before but not enough info to go on and have been too busy to pursue. Are you referring to stewart's creek that branches off of ULR? or another? I've run into at least two and they are not the same as I think the other was noted as south of Fayeteville or something like that, it escapes me at the moment.

I'll have to cut this short for now, I have to go out.
Been nice chatting and I'll be thinking about your suggestions. If you think of anything else I'd be glad to hear it. I'm also trying to figure out how to get a list printed of my McLeans (18) some are from Harnett according to a quick perusal..

More later, geneputer

I know there was a "Black" Neill McNeill was from Jura, Scotland in the 1700s. He is suppose to be the first McNeill in the NC and this is true. He had a brother named "Bluff" Hector McNeill. Their parents were Margaret Johnson and Laughlin McNeill. The parents never left Scotland. There was a creek named Hector's Creek and there should be a township after it. The three prong branch might be either Buies' Creek, NC or Stewart's Creek. There was an Indian sttlement in Stewart's Creek near the prong area.

Oh, well their dad Hector owned property in Harnett and I've not been able to solve his parentage, so was just wondering.

It does look like their property was close to the line so makes it hard. Broadway and Swann's Station seem to be their area and over to Jonesboro.

You don't happen to know any creek/stream that was referred to as the 3 prong branch? or the McNair house?

Oh, but there are maps that show Moore looking like a pie wedge, you know, flat sided. And Vass is very close to the county line.

But maybe it is just the difference in map making.
