Lewis T. Squires, et. al.
Mary A. Spiers m. (1) Thomas Spiers and (2) Lewis T. Spiers. I am descended of the first marriage, to Thomas Spiers. I have two books, one by Richard Jordan and another by Marian Spiers, concerning the Spiers genealogy. I believe the names are correct. There was an Absalom Spiers who married Rachel and lived in Nansemond County (now Suffolk). Absalom and Rachel had several children, and among them was an Absalom II, who married into the Cottons. My work is packed up in a closet right now, and I'd have a hard time pulling it all out. I believe Mr. Jordan's book springs from the Ida Norma Spiers line. Mrs. Marian Spiers has very little work on the VA/NC Spiers, and her work is confusing. I have tracked this line back to England and apparently, our ancestors run very closely to Queen Elizabeth I through the Howard family.
If you have any questions that I might help you with, I'd be happy to do so. My paternal line came to America very early on and I'm tracking far too many to list. Again, if you have any specific names you're researching, I'll give you any information I have. Also, there was a Dr. O'Dwyer of Hertford County who kept a diary which stated that the Spiers seemed to mary cousins...now we know!
