William W. Johnson was the son of Moses Johnson and wife Rebecca (probably Whittington) who lived on Mountain Branch on the North side of Middle Creek in what is today Cleveland Township, Johnston County, NC. In my 1991 genealogy entitled "Nimrod and Amanda Johnson Stephenson of Pleasant Grove Township, Johnston County, North Carolina: Their Ancestors and Descendants," I identified Patsy Johnson, wife of William W. Johnson, as a daughter of Drury Johnson and his wife Frances Jones. However, my research since publication of that book has revealed that this is in error. Martha "Patsy" Johnson, daughter of Drury Johnson, married Drury King, which is proven by the Wake County, NC estate papers of one of her brothers Charles Johnson.
It appears LIKELY that Patsy Johnson, wife of William W. Johnson, was probably a daughter of Starling and Esther Johnson, who also lived on the north side of Middle Creek. Starling Johnson was the brother of Moses Johnson, thus making William W. Johnson and Patsy Johnson first cousins. Starling and Moses Johnson were sons of John Johnson (d. 1780) and his second wife Elizabeth, who migrated to Johnston County, NC from Southampton County, VA in the 1750s settling on the north side of Middle Creek.
Esther Johnson, w/o Starling, was the daughter of Henry Johnson (d. 1807) and ____ West, daughter of Robert West (d. 1790). She was the granddaughter of Sill Johnson (d. 1763) of Swift Creek and White Oak Branch. Sill Johnson migrated to Johnston County, NC from Amelia/Prince Edward Co., VA prior to 1755.
