Hello Lucinda, I know where you are at $$$wise I am there also right now. your in the ball park I know it's not cheap but I can say if you join FTDNA you can get a discount Family Tree DNA is probably one of the best in my opinion and they claim to be one of the biggest DNA data bases around I used Ancestry.com for my first test and paid like 79.00$'s and this was just the basic 12 marker test. The much better 37 marker test is over or about 120.00.
I am the group Administrator for our Hinton group on FTDNA it sounds like the same as Ancestry but it's not the same. Ancestry is good I am also on the board their. I did the 37 marker test with FTDNA at a discount as I was in the group.
still was around $80.00 and I got an upgrade to deep cad which confirms that you are in a certain hologroup I'm I1
FTDNA had a promo on last month which was the 37Ydna test plus the MTDNA for females for 119.00 which was a really good deal but sorry to say that has expired.
