I started looking too. Oscar and Mary Davis are also my great grandparents. They had another son, John Henry Davis, born 10/25/1902, died 08/13/1963, married to Louie Mamie Ennis who were the parents of my dad, Garland Davis.

This webpage lists his birth place as Boon County.

There is no such county in NC but there is Boon Hill township in Johnston County, NC. That may be the birthplace.
