I have just read an old email from Ann in 2004 regarding the Gulley family in Johnston Co., NC. I descend from John Gaston Gulley and Martha Stevenson, who lived in this county. I would love to connect with you, Ann. You mentioned that you have a lot of Gulley information. I would love to share anything I have. Thanks for your consideration.

Litaker / Laidacker / etc. DNA Project

Seeking DNA test participants. We are trying to establish genealogy links to the Litaker family. This surname is spelled a variety of ways including, but not limited to:

Litaker
Lidaker
Leidaker
Leideker
Leidecker
Laidacker
Laidaker

The 1790 Federal Census shows members of this family were living in Rowan and Mecklenburg Counties but members could have settled anywhere in North Carolina. Research leads us to believe members of this family were in Pennsylvania prior to North Carolina. However, there seems to be a horrible lack of documentation to prove ancestry – thus the DNA project. If the DNA matches, we will know we are on the right track. If it does not match, they we will know to look in other directions.

We hope to find male Litakers (and other similiar spellings) to take the Y-DNA67 test. We are using Family Tree DNA (www.FamilyTreeDNA) for the project.

If you would like more information about this new DNA project, please contact me.

Linda Allred Cooper
lacooper@mindspring.com
To be honest I'm completely confused on the info on John Willis Hinton and Willis Hinton..I found the death record of Willis Hinton, showing MH and TH as parents being born 1816 in Ky and death 1876 in Simpson, Ky. Think this was the info for John Willis?? Willis Hinton is shown birth 1822 in Il. and death in Fayette, Il. John Willis my gggrandfather through William J Hinton and John Clay Hinton. Do you have info to clear the confusion.. Really don't have much info on John Willis Hinton. Was hoping that you have more info that I.. My granddad, John C Hinton's verbal to his his son that he was born in 1874 in Vienna, Grundy, Il. I have found no records to verify this.. There is a 1873 marriage record for William J Hinton and Elizabeth McElroy. The 1880 census shows 3 McElroy children and 3 Hinton children. Fany (1874) John (1877) and Sidney (1880). My grandad John C. left Ky. at the age of 13 and went to El Reno, Ok. At 18 he went to Nebraska and was a rodeo performer. There are no census records to verify this. He showed up in Arkansas in married Canzada Jackson in 1911..There is no record of any type found on William J--Elizabeth and the rest of the children.. Was hoping to fill some of the gaps

I have seen the documents you reference..That is the only link I can find from him to his father John and mother Charlotte. I have another document showing Moore came to Warren, Ky about 1810 with a marriage to Temperance Willowboughy in 1811..Have a listing of siblings along with my ggrandfather John Willis..I did see another Willis but assumed they were the same person. There are lots of Hinton's listed in and around Johnston, N.C. area and lots of stories of a Col. John Hinton..Not sure at this timenot sure if there is a connection.. All I know for sure is that John Willis was the father of William J. who was the father of my grandfather John C. who did not much of a history until 1911 when he married my grandmother Conzada Jackson in Arkansas. The 1880 census was the last history of William J. and his family..I would be most happy to view what info you have including pictures. I do have pictures of John C. Hinton..Thanks cuz

Moore Hinton trail was to Warren County, Ky. about 1810. He connects to John Hinton and Charlotte Carter..I have been told that Moore was possibly a middle name. Just have to figure which one of his sons was Moore. There are lot of Hinton's around the Johnston area including Col. John Hinton and don't know if I came from this line. Moore's son John Willis was married to Francis McElroy..Their son William J. Hinton was the father of my grandfather John C. Hinton.I find no records of the William J Hinton family after the 1880 census with exception of John Clay..Any info or pictures would be appreciated.

Martha had Young John and Elizabeth "Bettie" Strickland. From the information that I have Martha Strickland never married and her daughter Elizabeth never married but I do think I found Elizabeth in the bastardy bonds in Johnston County,NC.
I know this is a long shot but I am trying to help my brother-in-law locate his step father. I am seeking the burial place of Alfred Eugene Sturtevant. He was born in 1926 and died 3 Jun 1977 in the VA hosp. in Durham,NC but he was living in Johnson Co. at that time. His death record says he was buried out of state. His stepson believes he was buried in VA in one of the Veterans cemeteries but I have not been able to locate the cemetery. I am hoping maybe he had family or friends still living in Johnson Co. that may know where he is buried. Any suggestions or help sure will be appreciated.

Re: Moore Hinton

Two things cousin .... first, there was s court document dated Sep. 2, 1823, located in Allen County where Moore states his father as John Hinton, of Johnston County, NC. It's in reference to his death and claiming his part of the inheritance. There is a will on record in Johnston Co., NC of a John Hinton we died a few months prior to that date, but Moore is not mentioned. My assumption is that Moore is his middle name as it's a prevelant practice in this part of KY. Just need to figure out which one of the sons mentioned is Moore.

Second, you mention John Willis as if he was one person. But there was both a John and a Willis, in addition to Martha prior to John and then Elizabeth, Joseph(my line), William Green, and Eliza Jane.

For a long time I thought they were the same person too and used the Willis part as the name connection. He is buried in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Cemetery (aka Cold Water). Any mention of John, who married Fannie McElroy, as a son of Moore I ignored. So if you are part of this line, I'd be willing to share information on the side.
