I need a document that will prove that Nathan Batten, {Buried at Micro} is father of Abraham Batten who m. Ruth Starling. I have a copy of the Johnston CO. Heritage book, article 109. THe NSDAR will not accept that as proof. I am Registrar for a DAR chapter and need this info to assist an applicant for our chapter. The sources listed at the end of the article cite land records. If someone is willing to look this up and provide a copy I would GLADLY pay cost for copy and time spent in research. send me a note if you are that person. Thank you. B Houston

I was told recently that there is native american heritage in the family from this line. I am sure that many years ago Native American blood wasn't considered a proud thing, so it could be hard to trace. Here is a picture of Dallas...
From the Kinston Free Press newspaper of Kinston, NC
22 Dec 1898

Mrs. Bedie WATKINS, of Johnston county, 106 years old, was burned to death a few days ago. Her great age rendered her helpless and while the members of the family were out of the room she caught on fire. She was burned almost to a cinder before she was discovered. It is claimed that her age can be positively proved.

Taneya
Kinston Free Press Blog - http://kinstonfreepress.wordpress.com

I am placing the following information on the Spicer family for any corrections, additions, and new data. Joseph Spicer married Mary Fitspatrick on 7/31/1764 and they had the following children: James who married Percula Price, Joseph Jr., Hardy, Claborun, and Elizabeth (1778-1853) who married John Hales in 1813 in Madison County Georgia. The family moved to Oglethorpe County Georgia and settled in the Thompson district. Several land transactions can be found about 1801 and 1803. James moved to Hickman/Humphreys County Tennesssee and Claborn moved to Dickson County Tennessee. They can be found in the 1820 and 1830 Tennessee census. James had the following children: Sarah who married Pleasant Rogers, Burwell B. who married Elizabeth R. ????, Thomas who married Fanny Vincent, James Jr., Elizabeth who married a Haile, Martha who married a Lokey, Mary Temperance "Tempy" who married Pharis Baker, Mancy who married a Vincent and Matilda who married a Hall. When Percula died James married Charolette ??? and they had Frances (1830-), Charles (1834-) who married Eliza Long and Jennifer who married a Cannon. My line is through Pleasant Rogers and the child Pherrell Vincent Rogers. I would appreciate any information, additions and corrections. John Thomas

I am searching for the parents of my great grandfather, Wesley Atkinson, born c. 1845. I believe he was born into slavery. Have been able to trace him back to the 1880 Census, when he was living in Selma with his first wife Mary Richardson. Later married my great grandmother Amanda/Manda Eldridge, daughter of Arnold and Betsy (Altman) Eldridge. Wesley and Manda lived in Bentonville. The only clue I've been able to find so far as to the identities of Wesley's parents is a mention of "L. & Sophia Atkinson" as his parents on the Johnston County Marriage Register (1883 marriage to Amanda Eldridge). Have not been able to identify any of Wesley's siblings. I believe he was deeded some land in Johnston County, which became the site of the Wesley Atkinson Family Cemetery.

Seeking to identify parents of Nancy Hinnant, second wife of Joseph Raper. I note that several researchers on WorldConnect Project identify her parents as James Hinnant and Cynthia Barnes. The US census records indicate that Nancy Hinnant, daughter of James Hinnant and Cynthia Barnes, is still living with her father in 1860 and 1870.

I am searching for information about Andrew Lee. According to the 1840 census he was born in North Carolina in 1808. Family tradition says he was the son of Edward and Sarah Lee but I have no proof of his parentage. Any chance our Andrew Lee has a connection to the Johnston county Lee families?

In the 1850 census of Johnston County, NC, household #462, William Munds (70 m farmer NC) is listed with wife Sally (65 f) and children Betsy (28 f), illegible (2- m farmer), Alexander (18 m farmer), Samuel (16 m farmer) and Anne Ennis (21 f). Does anyone have any information regarding the individuals of this household? I think this is the William Monds/Munds and Sarah Sullivan who were married in Duplin County on March 2, 1810. For those who wish to refer to it, I have posted genealogy data on my Monds/Munds line and other surnames for eastern NC at http://www.geocities.com/mondshome/genealogy.html . Just click on the "Monds & Cashwell" link for a summary of my data on this line. I would appreciate responses regarding any of the individuals present in the 1850 census entry that I have cited above.

He married Martha Ballard 29 Oct 1840 in Chambers Co. AL. Boykin Lee signed their marriage bond. Boykin Lee & James W. Lee's relationship is unknown. According to the 1840 Chambers Co., AL census only 2 of the 10 Lee households had a male age 20-30. One of these being Boykin Lee and the other is William Lee. James W. Lee is my "brick wall" any info will help.

I am researching my ancestors, Wright Handy ADAMS(b. 1808, N.C.) and Anna Jane JONES ADAMS(b.1817, N.C.), daughter of Reddick JONES (b.1790, N.C.). Wright Handy ADAMS was in Johnston Co. N.C. in 1834 as a bondsman in the Johnston Co. marriage of Right A. ADAMS (son of Allen & Sally ADAMS) and and Theny INGRAM. He moved to Montgomery co. Ala. where he married Anna Jane JONES Mar. 8, 1836. His name appears in the Montgomery Co.Ala. estate papers of Bryant ADAMS (Jr.?)(apx.1839). Bryant ADAMS (Sr.) was a pensioner of the Rev. war from Johnston Co. who had his pension transferred back to N.C.. and apparently died in Johnston Co.. I would like to find the parents of Wright Handy Adams and find his connection to the Johnston Co. Bryant ADAMS family.

I am looking for information on Charles and Edith Beasley. I have very little info and am hoping to find a connection out there. My husband's gg-grandmother was Delia Susan Beasley, she married Henry Ellis Thain. Delia's parents are Charles and Edith Beasley.

The only census record I have found with them together is 1860. Charles and Edith are listed in the 1860 census: married in Boon Hill, Johnston County, NC. I believe Edith to have died before the 1870 census and Charles remarried, a Rebecca Perdue. Charles is in the 1870 census in Raleigh, Wake County, NC with Rebecca and some of his children.

I found a grave for Edith Beasley, died in 1868 in Riverside Cemetery, Johnston County, NC, but I can't confirm this is my Edith.

I found a marriage record for Charles Beasley and Rebecca A. Perdue, Dec 29, 1868, but again I can't confirm.

If anyone is researching this Beasley line, I would love to share info!!
Thanks, Jeanie

Beasley/Tart's in Johnston Co, NC

I am interested in finding out information on any possible relatives from Johnston County, North Carolina. My great-grandparents were Lillie Florence Tart (b. 5-18-1903) and John Elbert Beasley (b. 3-20-1897).
Paternal side:
John Elbert Beasley's parents were John K. Beasley (b. 3-25-1862) and Edieth Cathern Hudson (b. 7-9-1864).
John K. Beasley's parents were John Wesley Beasley and Charlotte Hood.
Edieth Cathern Hudson's parents were Benjamin Farmer Hudson (b. abt 1822) and Elizabeth Eldridge (b. abt 1826).
Maternal side:
Lillie Florence Tart's parents were Young John Tart (b. 7-3-1862) and Amanda Anne Peacock (b. 11-22-1867).
Young John Tart's parents were James William Tart (b. 1815) and Winnifred Smith (b. 1817).
Note: I have information which traces the Tart genealogy back to Elnathan Tarte (born in 1635; married Alice born in 1639) at Saint Michael Parrish, Crooked Lane, London, England. Also, I have the names of Young John Tart's 14 brothers and sisters!
Amanda Anne Peacock's parents were John Bryant Peacock and Nancy Elizabeth Smith.
If anyone can help me, I would appreciate other information and would be glad to share more! I am trying to research all lines back to, at least, the 1600's! Thank you!
I'm trying to find any information at all about Robert Orr who appears to be the progenitor of most of the Orr's in southeastern NC.

The earliest record concerning him located thus far is in a Johnston County deed book in which we find land transactions between Robert Orr and Reuben Hunter. Robert Orr sold Reuben Hunter a plot of land on 10 November 1761 which had been earlier granted to Robert Orr by the province of NC. Reuben Hunter later sold to Robert Orr land on the 27th March 1765. That is the sum total of my knowledge of him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robin Moore
I'm looking for these 2 cemeteries. The D. A. Overbee (#0760) cemetery is listed in vol. 6 of the Johnston Co. cemetery records as being 1 mile from Brogden school. Does anyone know where this cemetery is exactly, and does anyone know what condition it is in now?

The next cemetery is the Overby cemetery (#0945), listed in vol. 7 of the Jo. Co. cemetery records. THis is the same cemetery as the Andrew Overby cemetery (#0776), which is listed in vol 6. I followed the directions from vol. 7 and could not find this cemetery. Is it before Stevens Chapel or past it (when headed toward Brogden)? Also, does anyone know what condition this cemetery is in?

Any info would be appreciated.

Brian

I was recently in NC doing research. My family searched roads for 2 days looking for an old family cemetery. In my family it was called the Overbee/Lewis cemetery and was located somewhere off Brogden Road (maybe a side road); off a road near where the Old Brogden School was located. It was remembered to be about a mile down a dirt/gravel path and located on the left. Some of the Lewis' buried there have a large cement slab over the graves to keep them clean. Some in the family "remember" that a family (Herring's) now own the land. I am so hoping that somebody out there can help me locate this!!! TIA!!!!
