In reviewing a document that tries to explain the origin of the name DEITZ, there is a paragraph regarding Jacob Deitz Jr.
It reads: Jacob Deitz Jr married Nancy Ashe on Oct. 12, 1822. In 1828, they left Catawba County and made their first trip to Western North Carolina. According to the Rev. Thaddeus F. Deitz (grandson of Jacob Jr) who went to Hickory, NC seeking information about his ancestors. Shortly after Jacob Jr married Nancy Ashe, he moved to Haywood or what is now Jackson County, NC. He became dissatisfied after only 3 days and they came back to Catawba County where they settled in the old Hickory Tavern where they lived 2 years. During this period they had two children, Laben and Talitha. Later, desiring to go west, he took his wife and two children and went back to Haywood County (now Jackson County) and lived there the remainder of his life.
Jacob Jr and Nancy had eight more children, then Nancy passed away in the late 1840's. Jacob Jr then married Mary Cabe, daughter of Amos and Esther Cabe, and had three more children; Jacob M., Martin Luther and Thomas W.
Jacob Jr passed away soon after the birth of Thomas W.
