Just a little personal detail. William Marcus Cloer was my gggrandfather and he was indeed called Mark by most people, with the exception of his wife. Her name was actually Savannah Ledford, although almost all records show her as Susan. I have copies of the letters he wrote to her during the war. His mother's first name was actually Agathia according to his correspondence.Jacob Cloer was known from his childhood and throughout his life as Bud Cloer. I am very fortunate that my mother who is Jacob's granddaughter is still living at the age of 97 and has not only records, but an excellent memory. I have a photo of Jacob if anyone is interested in a copy, I would be happy to share it.
