I saw your query on the Macon County, NC webpage.
My wife is also a descendant of George Towery Ledford and Mary Curtis through
their son Hiram. It would be great to share info with you. I have contacted
many Ledford researchers, but none are actually researching THESE Ledfords.
What I am mainly lacking is proof as to the parents of either George or Mary.
I had it listed that Mary's father may have been Thomas, but I have no proof.
Here is what I have:
George Towery Ledford was born about 1772 in PA (Yes, PA. Most researchers
tell me he must have been born in NC, but the 1850 census clearly says PENN
for place of birth). Mary Curtis was born 11 Dec 1777.
They had children:
1) Curtis Aaron Ledford (b 8 Apr 1796) who married Sarah Cassandra Allison.
They moved to White Co, GA.
2) Hiram Ledford (b abt 1805) and married Mary _____. They later moved to
Union Co, GA and then to Polk Co, TN, where they died.
3) Elizabeth Ledford (b abt 1812) married William F. Passmore.
4) John H. Ledford (b abt 1816) married Sarah Bell
Mary Curtis died in 1844. George Towery Ledford died in 1857. They are both
buried in Sugar Fork cemetery, Cullasaja, Macon Co, NC. I have visited that
cemetery (I live in Fort Wayne, IN, so it is quite a trip). I have a copy of
George's will.
That's about it. I would be interested in any additional info you have on this
family or their parents. If you send me your address, I will be happy to send
you a copy of that will or anything else you might want. I can send you family
group sheets on any of these families also. Look forward to hearing back from
you.
