I have only just begun genealogical research, but so far, here is what I have found about my line from George forward. My great-grandfather John L. Norton married Viney (Brazil?) sometime between 1915-20. She was born ca 1895 (I have been told possibly in Cherryville, NC). I don't know for certain if there were other children of these two, but my grandfather Henry Allen Norton was born on 2/1/1917 in White Rock, NC (Madison County)and was delivered by Ursley Norton. Grandfather Allen married Alice Novella Metcalf ca. 1940 and died in Greenville, TN on 1/29/1984 (buried at Bethany Freewill Baptist Cemetery). They had two children, Edna Ruth Norton (my mother) b. 10/30/1945 and a younger child, Stephen Norton (birthdate unknown). They divorced when my mother was very young, and I know that Allen remarried and had other children (names & dates unknown). Edna Ruth married Tommy Roberson in 1961 and had three children, Susan (2/25/1961), Tony (1/23/1963)and Carla (10/28/1964). I married Douglas Porter Layton on October 16, 1982 and have two children, Alexander Douglas (b. 9/25/85) and Amber Cheri(b.5/25/90).

Thanks for all the information. Now I guess I'll start working on more concrete dates and look for further info on Peter Norton. If you find anything else in this area, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.
