Judy -
I am working on some of the same people. I am descended from the marriage of Rachel McKinney and Robert Elliott. This link is to the Jennings County GenWeb page... the Probate book lists a William McKinney purchasing land in 1839, I know that Rachel and Robert end up getting married in 1844. Is it possible William survived and moved to Jennings with Phebe or is the marriage to Aaron Green a sure thing? Thanks for the help
-Josh

My first mb post. . .I do hope this is not out of place here.

I am seeking anyone that may have a copy of the Toe River Valley Heritage books specifically volumes one thru Seven.

http://www.toerivervalleyheritage.com/

Most of the ones that have VAUGHN/CARPENTER family information are out of print. Photocopies of the relevant articles/pages would be a huge blessing and i will pay for them (with dollars or a barter).

I am seeking any and all info on my ancestors Frances Vaughn (b.1817/8) and Samuel Carpenter (b.1814), and Frances' possible parents William Vaughn + Elizabeth Davis. Also her possible brother Alfred Vaughn. All these people lived in Burke/Yancey/Mitchell county circa years 1810-1870.

Any further recommendations also greatly appreciated in this search : ).

One comment (perhaps ignorance on my part?)... are you sure Ellen married Sie McKinney (full name: Josiah Henry McKinney, son of David McKinney and Elizia Hoilder)?

Census records show Ellen married to a Henry Ledford... not McKinney. So,
while Sie was Josiah HENRY McKinney, he's not the Henry in Ellen's census records. During those same census years, Sie is shown married to Queenie Bell Frye (They (Sie and Queenie) interred in the McKinney Cem in Mitchell County, NC).

So, perhaps your Ellen married a different Henry?

If you wish to research it.... they (Henry Ledford and Ellen) are in the
1910, 1920, 1930, 1940 census records (all without any children) in
the Allen, Clay, KY or District 5, Clay, KY records.

If you hit a brick wall with Ellen, perhaps this is why. I wanted to let you know .... just in case and I hope this helps... and I hope, in my ignorance of this line, I'm not asking about an entirely different family......... If so, forgive the comment and, please, email me, so I can remove it.

Happy family-histoy hunting.

Linda I do believe that we are close cousins! I come from the same lineage - My GF is Carson Elijah Jarrett & my father is his son, William Dewey Jarrett. What is your dad's name? I have pictures of the ceremony & the headstone that the Sons of Confederacy put on Samuel's grave in Nebo.

I have been doing some research on our GGG grandfather Killian & believe that we are real close to identifying his father. The NC census of 1790 places them in Rowan county & his fathers funeral was in Lincoln County in 1801.

Do you know if your husbands family has an ancestor named Elizabeth? Elizabeth Hildebrand is a name that I have come across in my research & she married a John Jarrett in the early 1800's.

You can find me on Facebook too if you are so inclined.
On Daniel's death certificate it lists John as having been born in Mitchell County. John would have been born around 1800. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

I did see on the marriage certificate that James is from Green Mountain NC. A possible place where he lived and not born? I know it also states that Jane, his mother, is married and not widowed or single in the 1920-1930 census. The father/husband is not living with them though. Looking into this more. Although I did find a Rix/Rex Stanley in Mitchell County in a 1930 census listed as "inmate" living with a family possible half way house?
I like puzzles so this is right up my ally. :)

Shortly after his dad passed he was put into an orphanage. I'm pretty sure his dad was previously married to a Bertha Mae and had children from that marriage. I'm looking for any information on James L. Stanley who his parents were, sisters, brothers. Ira and James were married in Unicoi County Tenn. Information on her would be great also. I know she was incarcerated when he was put into the orphanage.

Please contact me away from this forum at dcgalloway1956@hotmail.com. The Greene family originated in Baltimore with Isaac Greene and his sons Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (there were earlier generations and Isaac had other children). Shadrach Greene lived in the area of Burke County, NC. His son Elijah Greene was the father of Adolphus Greene. Meshach Greene, a Revolutionary War veteran, died in Morgan County, TN after 1850. Finally, Abednego Greene moved to Pendleton District, SC where he died. Abednego Greene, Jr. is buried in Tuscaloosa, AL.

David C. Galloway
