Sam - Thanks for your info. My Gilbert family ended up in Wayne County, Indiana. My great grandmother was Anna Gilbert, the daughter of Thomas Gilbert. The Gilbert name ends there as a surname with my immediate family, although it was my grandmother's middle name and my dad's given name. At least three generations of my family were part of the Quaker community in northern North Carolina. My link goes from Thomas to Josiah (1773-1839), born in Pasquotank, to Jeremiah (1743-1820), also born in Pasquotank, to Josiah (1690-1760), born in Perquimans. That's as far as I've gotten. I have not run into a Jack or Jackson Gilbert, but I will keep your message in my Gilbert file and would be happy to contact you if I do. My guess is all the Gilberts in the area back then were somehow connected. I haven't been to Perquimans or Pasquotank, but hope to do so at some point. Maybe I'll discover more there.
