The Harveys came to the Colony and settled in Perquimans county, on the Albemarle Sound, on the land between Yawpim and Perquimens River, which to this day is called Harvey's Neck. John Harvey's name appears in NC history as President of the Council and Acting Governor in 1680. He was followed by John Jenkins during the same year. From the records in the Court House of Hertford, Perquimans Co., NC the following items are taken:
Thomas Harvey, Esqr., son of John Harvey and Mary, his wife, living at Heath in Snetterfield Parish in Warwickshere in Old England, and Joanah Jenkins widow of Hon. John Jenkins, Esqr., were married by Hon. Anthony Slookem, Esqr., the 13th day of April 1682. Johannah Harvey, wife of Thomas Harvey, Esqr., departed this life on 27th March 1688. Thomas Harvey married second Sarah Laker, daughter of Benjamin Laker and wife Jane Dey. John Harvey, son of Thomas Harvey and wife Sarah, was born 19 Sept. 1689 and died 5 Sept. 1691. Thomas Harvey, son of Thomas & Sarah, was born 6 Dec. 1692. Thomas Harvey was Acting Governor during Gov. Archdale's absence in 1697 and 98. Thomas Harvey, son of Deputy Governor Thomas Harvey (1698), married Elizabeth, the daughter of Col. James Cole, of Nancymun in VA. His will, dated 10 April 1729 & Probated and recorded 10 Nov. 1729 which mentions wife Elizabeth, sons Thomas, John, Benjamin and Miles. Eventually some of these family members went to Virginia.
