I am looking for information on the African American family of Riddick's, Overton's, Elliot's, and Wright's.
I have located Jason and Hannah Riddick, the grandparents of my father Thomas Jefferson Riddick. It seems that Jason was also the mate of a Jane Riddick for two years. My father know the name Hannah and said that she was his grandmother. Apparently Jane was before Hannah.
I have also seen the Riddick family as compiled by Frank A. Riddick, Jr. MD. He has traced the family back to England. Some time ago I found information on Riddick's in Virginia and in Gates County.
My father's mother was Ella Overton and her people were Nixon Overton and Kizar Wright. My father's first wife was Eva Elliott and her parents were William and Amanda Elliott.
My father told me that all of his relatives on both sides of our family were born in Perquimans County-either Winfall or Hertford. I still have relatives (cousins) there. Their name is Lightfoot.
My grandson has been given an assignment for Social Studies, a Civil War project-his family tree. His teacher is also wanting to know if any ancestor/s were slaves.
