Frank & Henrietta Sneed were former slaves who married as Frank Ellington & Henrietta Burton in 1858, as reported in their Granville Co. NC Cohabitation Marriage, which are the Freedmen's marriages of former slaves. They were probably former slaves of the ELLINGTON family who had recently (near the end of the War) acquired them from the SNEEDs. By 1870, they were using the SNEED surname in Granville County, Kittrells Township, with their 5 children born by that time, the oldest being Thomas Sneed, born 1858, and the others were Friday, Lillian, Nora & Barbara (incorrectly spelled as Bibre). In 1880, the children at home were Lillian, Nora, Barbary & Henry, aka Charles Henry as indicated in later Census. By 1900 when Kittrells was now in Vance Co., Henrietta indicated that she had given birth to 13 children, with 8 of them still living; at that time, 3 of them were at home, Ella, Josephine & Robert. Frank died on July 13, 1917 in Vance Co., no indication who his parents were, but his brother was probably Charles Sneed (wife Matilda Kittrell), who lived next door to the family.
