Hello Teresa. My 5xgreat-grandfather was Abraham Potter, Sr. who was born in Rowan Co., NC in 1745 and, among other children, had a son named John Potter. His wife was Margaret Gibson. Might he be the same as your John O. Potter? My Abraham was reported to have married Lydia Stewart in 1769. I have no date of her death but am wondering if your Alice Goodall might have been my Abraham's second wife. Kindest regards, Jim.

Sallie & Rosemary,
We are related. I have the photograph of my great-grandfather, William Grigg circa 1920, with his parents and siblings. William Grigg's parents were Joseph Isaac Grigg (1869-1948) and Selia Texanna Pruitt Grigg (1876-1956).
Joseph came over on the boat from Scotland as MacGreggor and shortened our name to "Grigg". He married Native Indian Selia Texanna Pruitt. They lived in the Lincolnton, NC area. But he never refered to us as Cherokee, only Moheghan or Mohawk. My great grandfather was ashamed of his heritage and would not it in detail. I am seeking to validate from what tribe our lineage came. Any ideas on how I can find which tribe Selia was from would be greatly appreciated.

I've found a little information on Mary's father Joseph Raincrow but not much to prove anything. I also have some information on the Dotson line going back to England that I'm not sure if it is 100% accurate due to the fact that I have found sites that claim the information I have is false. my email is audie1990@gmail.com if you have any information you want to send me or if you want information that I have.

Hi, My grandfather was Earl Taylor Willis (1901-1991). His mother was Vandelia Beasley? Etheridge?(1872-1910). She married William Josephus Willis (1867-1907). They lived on Portsmouth Island. Trying to find information on Vandelia, my great grandmother. According to the 1880 census she was "taken in to raise" by the Jesse Etheridge family. Harriet Beasley was the cook for the family. I can find no records of Vandelia (except for the 1880 census) until she married my ggrandfather. I don't believe Harriet to be her mother. If she was, she never married Vandelia's father. I have reason to believe that Vandelia's father was Native American. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

no problem, I found the information on fold 3 documents where the family of andrew "andy Brown had applied for native american Benefits. But they applied under Andrew and not his wife. All of them stated on the applications that his wife was named Sarah Barnes and not sarah reed, reid and Stated those where Mourning Brown's parents.
I found on from a Grandson of Mourning's too that stated the same thing. I have some of the documents if you would like to see them you can email me at Ella-Sizemore@comcast.net I only have a selected few.
Myra Lightfoot was originally Myra Patterson who married Alexander Lightfoot. Both are in the 1870 and 1880 census records as Mulatto's.
It is hard to decipher if they were former black slaves or actual indians because census records don't define mulatto's at that time. I have read that some states defined anyone that wasn't white or of african decent as mullato, yet others defined mix-raced blacks as mulattos.
I have been researching this family line for a while and am stuck at the 1870 census which probably means that they were former slaves, since most were not counted on the 1860 census.

Kimberlin's daughter Sarah C Burrell married George W. Reed and filed under her married name in 1909, on her applacation it states Andrew "Andy" Brown was full blooded Cherokee and not his wife Sarah Rebecca Reed. It also states The mother of mourning Brown is Marlley Barnes Not sarah.

They had 8 children, with one being Betty Lou Greathouse (1939-2001) who was married at least twice (Tank, Sandy) because she died as Betty Lou Sandy. I have spoken to all of her siblings, but they didn't know much about her. I am researching Betty's heirs because they may have inherited some Oil & Gas mineral rights in Tyler County, West Virginia.

Legend in my family says Candis/Kansas/Candace/Candie Ann Bowman b. 1865 in Wilkes Co, N.C. Was part "Indian." My mother was told Cherokee, but I'm taking it all with a grain of salt. Candis's father, James A Bowman of Wilkes, NC married Mariah/Mary Hall also of N.C. Her parents are Owen Hall and Micah/Mickey. There was a claim by Martha P (Hall) Blevins through her father Lexington Green Hall, she says his father is Owen Hall. My Owen Hall? Same county, born 5 years apart. Blevins (her married name) claims through "Old Ned Sizemore" were denied. I do not have her full application, I do not know her result. My other thought was the search Bowman had pointed to "Black Hawk"/Johnny Bowman, but all I found were claims through his daughter Alice/Alcey (Bowman). If he had no sons, I have only the Hall line to sort out. Any help?

OMG!!!
I really hope you're the person I've been searching for. I'm looking for anything about my gg grandma, Lizzie, Liza Combs, married to Joe Sizemore, of Kentucky. Our family story says that Joe needed a wife, and so he went to the Cherokee, and brought Lizzie home. She was so beautiful, that he fell in love with her and married her. I hope we are talking about the same person. I have no information about her. I have a couple pictures of Lizzie, DNA tests showing NA ancestry, but a dead end with Lizzie. I hope Lizzie is your Elizabeth Combs.
Thank you,
Roxanne

Hello
I am researching my family tree and I really think you could help me.
I am looking for the Majette family cemetery. I would like to receive a contact number. I believe my great grandfather is buried at that site.

I also know there is a Majette plantation in NC? would you know where it is located. Would you know where I could get information about either location. I have had no luck in my search. This is a big road block for me.

Any help would be appreciated
Thank you in advance
Chan
