Amongst eight children John Lewis Sr. (d. 1802 in Randolph Co. and his wife Pricillia Brooks (died after 1797 in Randolph Co.) is a Richard Lewis (b. July 22, 1759) and a Sarah Lewis (b. 1763). I am looking for a Richard that family legend says drove a wagon down from N.C. to central GA alone by the early 1800s, possibly before, though I don't think the county in N. C. is specified. One of his descendants was a Richard Joel Lewis who was my ggrandfather. My ggf was born in 1841 in central Georgia, perhaps Washington Co.or Wilkinson Co. GA, though counties were changing boundaries back then and he m. Exa Ethridge who was also b. in 1841. My impression is that his antecedent Richard was not his father but possibly his gf or ggf even, and if the family legend is correct and he came down alone it will be even more difficult to trace him from N.C., but if there is a record of the Richard who was a son of John Lewis (b. 1702 & died 1802) disappeared from the census after the death of his father /mother, that could be a good clue if no other is available. Richard and Sarah are common enough names, but they are recurrent in our family, and his younger sister could have had a special place in his affections. Thanks for any light you might be able to shed. Van Brock
