Hello I don't know if I can be of any help, but Lydia commons is my GGGG Aunt and did some research on her and Adam Davis this summer. I haven't researched any other Davis. I hope this is of some help.


1. Adam DAVIS1,2,3,4,5. Born on 10 Jun 1781 in NC. Adam died in New Boston Twp., Mercer Co., IL, on 5 Oct 1861; he was 80. Buried in Oct 1861 in Davis Cemetery, Mercer Co., IL.6 Occupation: Farmer. Religion: Society Of Friends.

Moved to Blue River, IN.
Who is the Elijah Meyers age 23, NC, living with John and Lucinda on the 1860 census, could this be a nephew?

Bio: Adam Davis was the eldest of nine sons of Jesse Davis & Elizabeth Reynolds. He married on March 1, 1803 to Lydia Commons (1781-1841), eldest of nine children of Robert Commons & Ruth Hayes. Adam & Lydia had 11 children: Ruth, Elizabeth, Mary, Phoebe, Jemima, Jesse, Robert, Alexander, Adam, John, and Lydia. The last two were twins. Three of the children married three Van Eaton siblings.

Adam & Lydia were Quakers in North Carolina and then in Indiana Territory, where they moved in 1811. In 1836 they moved to western Illinois. They are buried with other family members and neighbors in the southwest corner of Davis Cemetery on what was then the Davis farm in New Boston township, Mercer County, Illinois, northeast of the town of Keithsburg. The cemetery is up on a bluff about three miles east of the Mississippi River. Their children Alexander, John, and Lydia are also buried in Davis Cemetery with their spouses.

Bio: Robert Davis was the second son of Adam Davis & Lydia Commons. He was named after his maternal grandfather, Robert Commons. He married June 27, 1852, to Nancy M. Van Eaton, fifth of seven daughters of Levi Van Eaton & Sarah "Sally" Loyd. Robert & Nancy had four children: Eldora Blanch "Dora", Orinda Alice "Alice", Mary Ellen "May", and John P. Davis.

Two of Robert's siblings married two of Nancy's siblings: John Davis married in 1848 to Lucinda Van Eaton, and Lydia Davis married in 1851 to Ferdinand Van Eaton.

Bio: "Our Quaker Kin and Allied Families", 1974, Steven Coulter states: William was a farmer & stockraiser; in 1880 he owned 500 acres. His home place in Douglas Township, Polk Co., Iowa, was called Greenwood Farm now occupied by his granson, Edwin Justice. Greenwood Post Office was located on the corner from 1861 until it was discontinued in 1886. The mail was delivered there from Des Moines twice a week, and carried on to Elkhart and back on the following day. There was also a general store and blacksmith and wagon shop. William Justice was postmaster for 18 years. He was elected Douglas Township assessor in 1860, and held the office for nine terms. He also served as notory public, justice of peace, and delegate to state and county Republican conventions.

After a long illness, Nancy died of consumption (tuberculosis) at the home of her daughter May, Mrs. W.H. Beasley, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Buried in the same plot with Nancy and Robert is their young granddaughter, Bernice Leona Davis, who died July 6, 1898; there is no monument to mark the child's grave.44
