Thanks for info on James. That helps eliminate him as father (or grandfather) for my Marcus D. Benson. I wonder if James died during his service as a soldier during the Revolution. I have that Lt. James Benson mentioned in the Thomas Benson pension application as being in the service in 1777 out of Rowan.
Does anyone have his parents? I can not prove this but it appears that there were two Benson families in the Rowan/Mecklenburg area in the 1780 to 1800. One was the parents of Thomas who said he moved there at age 5 or 6 from PA in 1762 and the other was the family of Elam Levin Benson who moved there from DE/MD after 1780. Do you have other Benson families in the area at that time. The only one I see is a Reubin Benson. Is the Robert Benson in the 1790 census the father of the Robert Benson that married Lucy Hutchins in the 1790's? The 1790 census records show Robert and Thomas at the approximate same location.
If Thomas was a Quaker he fell off the wagon bad. He served several tours in the Revolution and was jailed for a shoot out in the Cabarrus County courthouse. Does anyone have any record of his wife applying for her survivor's pension from him?
I have done two DNA tests and am on the Nagel/Nagle/Naugle/Noggle group (with no luck todate).
Thanks again for your help.
