I am researching the surnames: MORRISON & WOODS. I am looking for information on Thomas Morrison, born 1745 in Scotland? He married Martha Rebecca Woods December 6, 1769 in Rowan Co., NC. Martha was born abt. 1750 in Va.? In the Rowan Co. marriage book, it lists Martha's mother's name as Martha. Thomas & Martha later moved to Patrick Co., Va. I am interested in the parents & siblings of Thomas & Martha. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Sarah Agnew

Rev. A.L. (Amos Luther) COBURN of NC (b. 25 Jul 1849)

Seeking informaion about the family of Rev. A.L. (Amos Luther) COBURN of NC. He was a pastor in the ME Church. Credited with being the founder of the Church in Salisbury, NC that bears his name.

Also served as pastor at the Dillsworth Church in Charlotte, NC.

He married twice. First to Mary BROWN, d/o Rev. David BROWN, a Methodist minister, and, second to Mary THOMPSON LUNDY, d/o Thomas Locke THOMPSON

A.L. was the son of James COBURN (b. Abt 1814, NC) had his wife, Nancy RAYMER/RIMER, (b. Abt 1824,NC) who marr 04 Feb 1841, in Rowan Co.

This James COBURN is probably the man who served as a private in Company G, 42nd Infantry Regiment North Carolina.

In the 1860 census, James, Nancy and son were recorded in that portion of Rowan Co. "North of The NC RR". His enlistment and discharge in 1862 is the last record I have of James. I have found Nancy (nee RAYMER/RIMER) COBURN in the 1870 census of Atwell, Rowan Co. I can not find her after that.

Believe that James and Nancy had at least one more child - a daughter.

Seeking all possible info on all persons mentioned. Particularly interested in other children of James and Nancy as well as ancestors of Nancy.

Please respond by posting or directly to:
johnramer@sbcglobal.net

He may have died in the 1790s as he gifted Reuben McClung of Greene Co., Georgia via the father, John McClung.

It is likely that John McClung's mother was a daughter or sister of Robert Linn as he was passing on property to John's son, Reuben McClung in 1796.

Another interesting connection is that John McClung was apprenticed to Henry Linn ca 1772 in Rowan Co., NC. after his parents died.

Does anyone have any information on this Linn family of Rowan County, NC? It appears that they came from Delaware

Does anyone know the origin of the name "Thayer's Place"? Does this refer to a specific Thayer, if so whom?

There are some wills made by Sophia House as well as by Solomon Faggart, her husband. According to some information given to me Solomon Faggart was born about March 1800 and died August 1857. He married Sophia House in 1823. She was born in 1806 and died in 1863. They had ten children:
William Riley
Jacob Harvey
Sarah Ann
Georg Ephraim
Elias Franklin
Milley F.
Henry Graeber
Daniel Chambers
Paul alexander
John Caldwell

Although the Faggart family is a part of Cabarrus County, many of the family members became a part of Rowan County as well. How much do you know of this family? And if you notice their names are usually spelled different ways: Fehgert, from the time they came here from Germany, to Faggart/Faggert.

Joseph

Martha Reid died in 1963 about the age of 90 plus. Her last marriage was to William Reid. She was a Huntley born in or about 1870 in Gold Hill, N.C.; she married first of all Giles Miller and she had three daughters: Fannie, Annie, and Alice. Her second marriage was to William Barrier, and she had a son Willis Barrier. My part into this is that two persons in that family are related through marriage. Fred House married Fannie Miller in 1909 and had a son Edward House; Willis Barrier is related through his being the father of my cousin Loraine House Strawder. Are their any others who may be a part of Martha Reid's family? I am building my family tree.
Joseph

Are you a descendant of Martha Huntley, Miller, Barrier, Reid?

In my House research, this lady is always there. Martha Huntley was born in Gold Hill or Rockwell in 1870 and died in 1963. Her first marriage was to Giles Miller in which she had three daughters: Fannie (1888-1932), Ann (1892-1932), and Alice (1895-1915). When Giles died in 1898, Martha married William Barrier in 1901, and they had a son Willis born in 1902-died in 1982. After William Barrier died in or about 1903, Martha married William Reid. They had no children. Martha died in Rockwell on November 23, 1962.
How the House part fits in is the fact that Fannie married Fred House, and they had a son in 1909. Then Willis Barrier met up with Fred's sister Theola House, and they had a child.
So if you are related to this lady, please notify me, I am working on the family trees of RowanCounty.
Joseph

All the above are buried in Shiloh UMC cemetary. The reason for my request is to see if there is a relationship between William and Christian Leatherman born about 1772. He is brother to Daniel Leatherman 1774 - 1852. There were two other brothers John and Jonas. Daniel was my gggg Grandfather. Daniel and his brothers were in Rowan County, the Reedy Creek area, in the late 1700's and some of the brothers moved on to KY and TN with Christian staying in NC. Between the years of 1805 and 1814, Jacob purchased over 1100 acres of land in Cabarrus Co., NC. Before 1819.

Looking for information- book ref - etc for info proving that John Hayes was born in Rowan NC - 27 Jan 1791. He was a soldier of 1812 in Ga - I have that proof - need to prove that he was from Rowan NC. I think that his father's name was Leonard Hayes - the listing might be Hays... Could someone get me a soundcard copy with this on it?
Thanks
Vickie

I am searching for confirmation of my sixth great-grandfather Col. John Lopp's service in the Saftey Committee of Rowan County. The Library of Congress list "The Lopps..." book written by Walter Beanblossom #CS71.L872 1972. This book references the "Colonial Records of North Carolina" in which John Lopp is noted in the Safety Committee in 10/17/1775. Can you direct me to the Colonial Records? I would like to confirm John Lopp's service in the Revolutionary War.

Large extended Perkins family in Roman, NC that originated from Maryland

I suspect my George Perkins is part of this very large extended Perkins family that originated from MD.

My George Perkins was born about 1780/81/82. He married an Elizabeth whose maiden name I dont know.

Earliest I believe I can document them is in Richmond, NC in the 1810 census.

Children were

John W (Wesley)
William
Mary
Rachael
Betsey
Kiziah ( Kesiah, maybe)
Nancy
Rebecca

Happy to connect to anyone who knows this family. I have reason to believe Georges father was either John or Jacob. Maybe of these Perkins in NC had children with similiar names.

Sue
sodixey@hotmail.com

These siblings moved to Rowan Co., NC prior to 1778 from Frederick Co., MD. They were children of John Martin and 2nd. wife Ann (maiden name unknown; 1st. married to Charles Dorsey who died 1732) as confirmed by Maryland church records. By 1790 Zadoc moved to Wilkes Co., NC. About circa 1800 the families of Asenith MARTIN JACKS and her brother Zadoc MARTIN moved to Kentucky. Benjamin and Asa MARTIN apparently remained in Rowan Co. Asa MARTIN's will probated in Rowan Co. 1807.

Caleb TODD died in Rowan County, NC in 1795. He was married to Margaret WILLIAM. I need specific information about this family and her ancestors - data and historical. When did he leave Rowan County? Why? When did he come back to Rowan County? Why? Where precisely did he live? Where is he buried. Any knowledge of his son Benjamin?
