WALNUT COVE - Mrs. Mae Ruth Adkins Dodson, 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Stokes Reynolds Hospital.

She was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Rockingham County to Elder Sam and Ethel Tucker Adkins.

She retired from the Dart Store and was a member of Palmyra United Methodist Church. Ruth was a volunteer for many different organizations through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband James Carey Dodson in 1993.

She is survived by her son and wife, Michael W. and Ann Dodson, of Walnut Cove; a daughter and husband, Brenda and Phil Mays, of Walnut Cove; a sister, Mary Belle Newman, of Madison; three brothers, Dean Adkins of Madison, Reid Adkins of Mayodan and Sam Adkins of Martinsville, Va.; two stepbrothers, Lenzie Sands of Sandy Ridge and J.F. Sands of Stoneville; four grandchildren, Brian Cone, Eric Cone, Justin Dodson and Jeremy Dodson; two stepgrandchildren, Julia Collins and Phil Mays Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Barbara Kay Adkins.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Palmyra United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Drew Southern and the Rev. Darryl Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, Oct. 14, at Burroughs Funeral Home, Walnut Cove, and other times at her daughter's home.
