I must have looked at the name incorrectly. When I went to find the file, it isnot there.
There is the one file on www.rootsweb.ancestry.com
numbered 3259137 that has GRIFFIN - GARRISON listed.

Can go to the first page, this site, and put in name for search. THen click on world connect.
Takes to list, all those who have ancestor name on their data files.

Can check list to see if any of them fit.

Other wise, can put in the surname, and birth place, marriage place, death place, each one separate to get a list of those surnamed family members in the area in which you are interested.

Guess I need my glasses after all.

I am aware of a photo of the interior in Stack & Beasley's (1902) Sketches of Monroe and Union County. Would very much like a copy of the outside with the logo of the store. I think it may have had two locations, but the only references I have to its location place it adjacent to or part of the Belk building.

Dorothy, please contact me at anexwrench2@msn.com. We are both related and connected. We are related through your grandfather, John Wilson Hargett as follows: J. W. H. is the son of James Culpepper ( J C) Hargett and his 2nd wife,
Martha Addielene (M A) Newsom. M A is the D/O William Newsom and Sarah Gulledge. William is the brother of my GG-grandmother, Patience Ann Newsom. William and Patience are the children of Joseph Newsom Sr. and his 1st wife, Christian Barnes. The Newsom line includes the following lines, Spencer, Sheppard, Ricks, Tooke, Jordan, these lines rreach back to the beginning of our country at Jamestown, VA, the Tooke line goes back many generations in England, to the conquest of England by William the Conqueror. The Newsoms go back in England to 1440. We are connected through
J C's 1st wife, Martha Ann Godwin, who died shortly after the birth of their 1st child. Martha Ann is the sister of
my great-grandfather, William G. Godwin. J C's brother,
Andrew Marion Hargett, married Martha's sister, Isabelle
as his 1st wife. I have much information on our ancestors
always glad to share.

The site is about the descendants of Benjamin Bennett Graves and his wife Synthia Sellars. Benjamin Bennett Graves was born in Montgomery Co., North Carolina in 1831, and Synthia Sellars was born in Chesterfield Co., South Carolina in abt. 1832. Their marriage was short lived, as Benjamin Bennett Graves is thought to have died in service to his southern heritage in abt. 1865, and then Synthia raised her children in Chesterfield Co., South Carolina. These six children, with descendants listed on site, gave rise to the large Graves clan that inhabited central and western Chesterfield County as well as Union and Anson Counties of North Carolina - and beyond

Come visit the site.
Hello Toni, Thanks for your response. I joined the DAR proving descent from Hugh McCain of Mecklenberg(Union) County, NC. I have found that I am also descended from Edward Richardson through his daughter, Sarah, who married John Starnes. Their son, Thomas P. Starnes, married Elizabeth Richardson. Their daughter, Lizzie Starnes, married John Jackson Mosley. Their daughter, Ida Mosley, married James Dallas Coleman McCain. They are my grandparents.
What line did you use to trace to Edward Richardson? perhaps I can use some of my daughter to connect into that line. Thanks for any help you can give me with this. Regards, Donna McCain Ozenne

I would say there is a good chance that your John Nixon was born in New Hanover County, NC. There were Nixon's there as early as the 1730's and they became large plantation owners.

The marriage record for your John Nixon to Rillis Stewart in Union Co. states that he was the son of Wallace Long and Charlotte Nixon. Rillis Stewart was the daughter of Adam and Rachel Stewart.

Here is some additional info:

Descendants of John Nixon

Generation No. 1

1.

Just found this. Looks like David's mother was Elizabeth THOMAS not Elizabeth SIMPSON.

Elizabeth Thomas b. ca. 1837, d. ca. 1858, married Elijah Griffin. Elijah and Elizabeth had one son named David W. Griffin b. 3 Oct 1859 d. 4 Apr 1927 bur, Philadelphia Bapt. in Stanly County. In the 1860 Union County Census, David W. Griffin, age 3, lived at the home of his Aunt Jane and Uncle Sylvester Williams. Dated 15 Dec 1881, David married Martha Ellen Dry, b. 3 May 1865 d. 19 May 1926. The marriage License listed both of David's parents as deceased. As also proven in the estate records of Sarah E. Thomas, who was Elizabeth's grandmother, David W. Griffin was listed as the sole heir of Elizabeth Griffin, dec'd.

The above info was found on this web page by George Thomas:
http://www.angelfire.com/nc/benjthomasofansonnc/David.html

I'm not related, but found some info that might help.

The death certificate for David W. Simpson in Stanly Co, NC dated Apr. 4, 1927 gives his parents names as:
Father's Name: Elizah Griffin
Mother's Name: Elizabeth Simpson

Although I could not find an "Elizah" Griffin, I found an Elijah who died in 1859:

U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedules, 1850-1880
Name: Elijah Griffin
Gender: Male
Place of Birth: North Carolina
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1833
Age: 27
Month of Death: Dec [1859]
Cause Of Death: Typhoid Fever
Census Year: 1860
Census Location: Union County, North Carolina

It is possible that this is the same Elijah Griffin found on the 1850 census:

1850 Census: Union Co, North Carolina
Joab Griffin 40 blacksmith
Elizabeth A Griffin 38
Mary A Griffin 16
*Elijah Griffin 14
Farington Griffin 12
Elias Griffin 10
Jane M Griffin 8
David Griffin 6
Zachery Griffin 4
Telitha Griffin 1

David Griffin and Martha Ellen Drye apparently married about 1882, so maybe you could locate their marriage license in Stanly County which may also list his parents.

Pete,
I've seen several of your posts relating to Abner Patterson.
My gg-grandfather was Benjamin F. Patterson b.abt.1820, and living in Union County, SC on the 1850 census. Your Abner b. abt 1823 was the son of Frederick Patterson b. abt 1806 in NC. The older Abner Patterson was born about 1775 in NC and was in Union County SC in 1830 and 1840. I have suspected that this Abner may be the father of my Benjamin and Frederick but I don't have any proof. It is based on the ages, children's ages and where they lived on the various census. Do you have any additional information at this time on them? Dean Patterson dean@carlpatterson.com

Litaker / Laidacker / etc. DNA Project

Seeking DNA test participants. We are trying to establish genealogy links to the Litaker family. This surname is spelled a variety of ways including, but not limited to:

Litaker
Lidaker
Leidaker
Leideker
Leidecker
Laidacker
Laidaker

The 1790 Federal Census shows members of this family were living in Rowan and Mecklenburg Counties but members could have settled anywhere in North Carolina. Research leads us to believe members of this family were in Pennsylvania prior to North Carolina. However, there seems to be a horrible lack of documentation to prove ancestry – thus the DNA project. If the DNA matches, we will know we are on the right track. If it does not match, they we will know to look in other directions.

We hope to find male Litakers (and other similiar spellings) to take the Y-DNA67 test. We are using Family Tree DNA (www.FamilyTreeDNA) for the project.

If you would like more information about this new DNA project, please contact me.

Linda Allred Cooper
lacooper@mindspring.com
My great grandmother, Martha Rosanna McCall came from the Mecklenburg-Union county areas. I believe I have found her in the 1880 census of Mecklenburg co. According to my grandmother, her mother was an orphan. She had at least one sister named Mollie, and I believe there were others.

William McCall Self 63 NC
Mary E Dau 35 NC
Margaret J G Dau 17 NC
Jennette G Dau 7 NC
Martha G Dau 5 NC
Amanda G Dau 2 NC

On the next page

S. Milton McCall Self 55 NC
Jane E Wife 44 NC
Mollie Niece 12 NC

William and Milton McCall according to my information I found were brothers, sons of Thomas McCall and Elizabeth Black.

In the 1870 census of Mecklenburg co.,

Mary McCall 25 NC
Margaret 8 NC
Molly 3 NC

The way it looks to me is that William McCall was the father of Mary and that she was an unwed mother. Anyway that is my take on this. I think it is safe to say that Martha and Jennette were sisters. Martha and my great grandfather Don Hartis married about 1892 and came to Texas in 1900. Would love to make contact on this and discuss further.

Regards,

Peggy

I am looking for any information on James Clark/e (b. 11 Nov 1811, d. 4 Feb 1857. He married (17 Nov 1836) Sarah Harriet McCorkle (b. 20 May 1813, d. 10 Jul 1895). They had the following children:

James P. Clarke (b. 1837, d 1842)
John B. Clarke (b. 1839, d. 1862) - civil war
Mary Jane Clarke (b. 1841, d. 1857)
Sarah Ann Clarke (b. 1843, d. 1844)
Archiebald M. Clarke (b. 1845, d. 1864)
Franklin M. Clarke (b. 1848, d. 1902)
William D. S. Clarke (b. 1851, d. 1928) - my direct ancestor
Margaret E. Clarke (b. 1853, d. 1853)
Martha M. Clark (b. 1854, d. ?)

I believe they lived in Waxhaw, Union County, NC. There are a lot more McCorkles and later Clark/e's in that area.

I hit a dead end with the patriarch here, James Clark. I have more information on his wife's family, the McCorkle line. Please let me know if any of this looks familiar to you.

Willing to share information.
