I realize this is an old post but I will respond any way. MY info is not based on fact but questions I asked my grandparents while they were still living. They were from the Laurel Creek section of N.C. My question to them was "Were there any blacks that lived around here?" They mentioned the name Hedgepeth. They proceeded to tell me a tale. Please remember that this is from oral history and not fact documented by me. The male of the family was accused of killing (poisoning) the wife and maybe a child. It was later found that the cow had ate something that caused them to be poisoned. When I asked where they were buried they pointed off the side of the road to where it was. When I didn't see a marker they said it was probably plowed under in the corn field. I know this is not what you would like to hear but if you take this info with a grain of salt it possibly could lead you further on your search.
