Surnames: Bird, Byrd, Ross
My grandfather was believed to have been born in Wayne County, NC on 18 Sep 1884. The date was obtained from his WWI Draft Registration card, and his birthplace ( and that of his parents) from the 1920 and 1930 Census records for Campbell and Anderson County, TN.

He was full-blood Cherokee (as verified on his 1930 Census) and I'm trying to figure out when his parents would have left OK. Of course...until I figure out WHO his parents were, this makes this task all but impossible! I have no information on him, prior to his marriage record of 1916, to my grandmother Lizzie[Ross] in Campbell Co., TN.

All I have is the aforementioned marriage record, WWI Draft Registration Card, Death Certificate for two infant children, believed to be his and Lizzie's, his 1920 census (shown as White) and the `Golden Nugget'...the 1930 Census that shows him as Full-Blood Cherokee.

After searching the North Carolina Birth Records database here on Ancestry, I find nothing for him. Even when searching for anyone born on that date, in Wayne County, it yielded nothing for a male Bird/Byrd/Baird. I'm running out of ideas!

Please tell me how to find your family, grandpa! Lord knows I'm trying!!
