I am very interested in the STANSBURY surname. I believe my g-g-g-grandfather, Ellis TYCER married a woman named Rachel STANSBURY in the early 1790's possibly in Wilkes Co., NC or Davidson Co., TN. Let me site the overview of Ellis TYCER'S Rev. War pension application:
Source: Revolutionary War Pension Abstract, Dickson Co., TN Handbook. Ellis Tycer, NC Line, sol b. 1755 in Northumberland Co., VA; enlisted at Halifax Co., VA. Discharged from service in 1782; returned to Halifax Co., VA and lived there after War; then moved to Wilkes Co., NC for 3 years; in 1792 moved to Davidson Co., TN, then before or about 1806 to Dickson Co., TN. He was living in Dickson Co., TN when he applied for his Revolutionary War Pension 8 Jan. 1835. Fought under General Green at Guilford Courthouse, NC during the Revolutionary War. Last pension check was dated April 1846.
While I have no "hard" marriage record for Ellis TYCER and Rachel STANSBURY, the STANSBURY name is prominent in descendants of Ellis TYCER. Supposedly, there is a bible record naming Ellis TYCER and Rachel STANSBURY the parents of Letticia TYCER who married John W. RAGAN in Dickson Co., TN in 1838. John W. RAGAN was living next door to Ellis TYCER in the 1840 Census of Dickson Co., TN. I do not descend from Letticia TYCER Ragan, but from another daughter, Louisa TYCER who married Thomas M. WHEELER in Dickson Co., TN in 1841. I have not seen the copy of the bible record mentioned above; a cousin who descends from Letticia TYCER and John W. RAGAN provided this information.
Census records from 1880 forward, involving children of Ellis TYCER indicate that Rachel STANSBURY may have been born in Massachusetts. Her estimated birth year, based on the the age of her children and early census records, is placed at about 1774 making her about 18 years younger than her husband, not unusual for that era. There is a group of cousins, descendants from five of the TYCER children who are researching these lines. We haven't been able to pinpoint who Rachel's parents or siblings may have been.
The fact that you are looking for information about STANSBURY in Wilkes Co., NC raises a red flag for me. It would seem that Rachel could have been related to the generation that produced the father of Moses STANSBURY. Have you found that Moses may have been from MA? Does the name Rachel appear in any of the STANSBURY related families in your database?
I have my database on World Connect at the following location; however, sources and notes have been withheld to shield living people.
