I'm looking for more information on my grandfather's family, who have apparently lived in the Yancey county area since before the county was created. Specifically, I've hit a wall trying to find parents or siblings for Ephraim Phillips, b. 1826?, NC, d. 8 June 1862, while serving in the CSA, Co A, Reg 29, m. Sarah (Edwards?) ca. 1846. He shows in the 1850 (as age 24) and 1860 Census records (as age 46) for Yancey county, and has the following children listed: Louisa, b. 1847-8, Amanda or Amandrea, b. 1849-50, Commadore, b. 1853, Bailum, b. 1854, Cornelius, b. 1858, John Wesley, b. 1860. All of the children were living together in Yancey county, with Commadore listed as the head of household in the 1870 Census records, which initially lead me to believe that Sarah was dead before 1870, but she is listed as still living on Bailum's marriage certificate, dated 15 April 1875, so she can't have died until after that. The sons in my lines married into the Bennett and Bradford families in later generations. I have scanned photos of some of these folks, their children and wives, that I will happily pass along if there is interest. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
