Beaver Sur name Research/Look UP

I'm researching the Beaver family. 1850 census in Edew Township, Leuecn County, Ohio: Beaver, Jonas, age 45, born in Nebraska. Married Barbara, also 45 in 1850. All children born in Ohio. Absulom, age 23, Truis, age 21, Catharin, age 20, Luciuda age 18, Sophia age 15, Emanuel age 10, Edward age 8, Anson age 5, and Johnson age 2.

Any other Beaver sur names in Ohio I'd also love to have information on, I found a post on a bulliton board of a Absolum Beaver Family Photograph, but my email to the author have been unsuccessful! I'd like to learn more about this family. With such a unique first name, I think it is possible this is the same Absulom Beaver that was born to Jonas and Barbara, and was 23 on Oct. 8, 1850! If any one can get thru to who ever made that post, let me know. The photograph was awesome! And the person who posted it may have clues to my family. I certainly have research I can share with any mutual family too!

I've found several Beavers with the same first names as my family on the NARA Gion Roster of Cherokee Tribal Members. I have the copy of Beavers listed there. BUT, HOW do I prove that any of the ones listed there are definatly blood relitives of MINE? Not just a speculation or guess?
And I was told there were some Beavers in the Objawai tribe. I know I have terribly misspelled that. I think you can, hopefully, know which tribe I was trying to spell. Any and all information you have is deeply appreciated.
Beavers in my family also lived in Illinoise, Sheridan: Chester Nebraska, Larimer County Colorado; Nickolls County, Nebraska: and Edew Township, Ohio, Leucn County. Denver Colorado, and area. Pa, Va, and S.C., and possibly other states.

I appreciate your time and assistance!

Barbara

Sure hoping to learn the name of Jane's husband. She is the head of house on 1850 Duchouquet,Auglaize census. Living with her are Oliver-age 15, Ruth-age 13, John-age 12, Mary-age 10, Roda-age 8, Henry-age 6, Elizabeth-age 5, Jane-age 4, William-age 3. I believe this is the Jane Taylor who married Elias Nelson in 1856 but would sure like to know the name of her first husband and the father of all those children! Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
Carol Drummond
cadrummond2000@yahoo.com

Lookup please: Campbell family reunion at Lakeview about 1889

I am hoping there is a local newspaper article about this and someone can help me. I have a picture postcard of my Campbell ancestors at a family reunion. On the back, handwritten is "August 1, Lakeview, Ohio." There is a place for a stamp - it is a regular old picture postcard, no border, sepia tone.

I inherited it. My 2nd great grandfather, Thomas Henry Taylor, is in it, and he died in August, 1889 - he was married to Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of John L. Campbell. Their son, my great grandfather, Murray Wilson Taylor, married Martha Eloise Campbell, daughter of John Wallace Campbell and Zebuline Clarinda Rhodes Campbell. They all resided in Allen/Auglaize/Shelby counties (as time went on and counties changed.)

Does anyone know anything about a Campbell family reunion in Lakeview, Logan County, in August of 1889 or so? There is one young man in a uniform, but I can't tell what kind it is. (My great grandfather, Murray Taylor, was a policeman for the railroad by 1900, but this looks like a soldier uniform.) There is a picnic table of food, with the large family gathering, a small house right behind them, and a horse in the background.

Maybe there was an article in a local paper? Any help would be appreciated.
Lookup please: 1845 Henry Taylor will or land deeds

I am desperate for help. I need help finding information on my 3rd great grandfather, Henry Taylor, b. 1787, d. 21 Sept. 1845, in Washington Township, Auglaize, Ohio. His name was Henry Clay Taylor. He was married to a Ruth, supposed to be Ruth Ellen Hodge (no marriage documentation yet located.)

Henry is in Duchonquet Township in 1840 when he was 53, with his wife, four sons, three daughters, and one male age 20-30 that I can't identify. He lives next door to his oldest son, William Taylor, b. abt. 1810 who married Jane Smith. William died before 1850, too. His oldest son's name was Oliver; Jane Taylor, age 35, is alone with nine children on the 1850 Allen County, Duchonquet census.

Henry's other sons were John Henry b.1819, James M. b.1822, Thomas H. b.1831, and Samuel Clay, b.1833. His daughters were Jane b.1817, Elizabeth Betsey b.1811, Rebecca b.1822, Malissa b.1829, and Caroline b.1835.

In 1850, Ruth Taylor is alone with Samuel, age 17, and Caroline Charlotte, age 15.

My 2nd gr-grandfsther is Thomas Henry Taylor, Henry's 7th child and 4th son - born 14 Nov. 1831 supposedly in Quincy, Logan County. Most of the children were born in Champaign County - Rebecca is listed as Allen County.

Thomas Taylor married Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of John L. Campbell, Sr. and Elizabeth McCullough Campbell (daughter of Archibald McCullough.)

Henry Taylor is buried in Shinbone Cemetery, Olive Branch Church, in New Knoxville. Other Taylors, Campbells, McCulloughs and extended family are buried there.

PLEASE HELP. I hope someone can help me find a will for Henry Taylor, or land deeds or maybe something with Ruth's maiden name on it. Henry served in the War of 1812, but it looks like only for a month in 1813, out of Urbana, Capt. Schoolers Company, county listed is Champaign.

Henry Taylor was in the same community as my other 3rd great grandfather John L. Campbell, my 2nd great grand uncle Samuel McCullough, Shadrach Montgomery, Benjamin Stiles, William Ryon/Ryan and the Sprays. Maybe that will help.

Perhaps there are newspaper articles about my Taylor, Campbell or McCullough ancestors that would give me some insight about them. I live in Texas, so I am clueless about where else to look.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I am searching for the death date and place for Elizabeth Bannon Jones. She was born 1840 in Salem, Auglaize Co OH. Her parents were John Bannon and Margaret Hesser. She married Charles Harrison Jones in Auglaize Co 14 Jul 1859. Charles Harrison Jones died between 1875-1880. I don't find Elizabeth in 1900. Does anyone have cemetery records for Auglaize Co?

Her name was actually Sarah Elizabeth, but she went mostly by Elizabeth -- just as Charles sometimes is listed as Harrison Jones. They seemed to like their middle names better than their given name. I found an Elizabeth Jones in Duchouquet Infirmary in 1900, but the enrollment sheet for this lady leads me to believe it is not MY Elizabeth.

Her children were:
Margaret Marietta born 1860 (died young)
Charles I Jones born 1865
Edward Jones born 1868
Albert L Jones born 1870
Amanda Ellen Jones born 1874
Benjamin Franklin Jones born 1875

Any information would be great.

Joseph Campbell/Clarissa Brannum: why died so young?

In my TAYLOR family research, I discovered that my gr-gr-grandfather JOHN WALLACE CAMPBELL was orphaned at a young age - his father was JOSEPH CAMPBELL, born abt. 1820 in Miami, Ohio, died abt. 1851 in Auglaize, Ohio. His mother was CLARISSA BRANNUM, born abt.1823, died abt. 1842.

They were MARRIED December 1840 by Shadrach Montgomery, Justice of the Peace.

I suspect Clarissa died in childbirth - John Wallace was an only child, later raised by his paternal grandmother, ELIZABETH HUGHEY McCULLOUGH CAMPBELL.

Does anyone know why Joseph Campbell might have died at only 31?

My relevant ancestry to this line is:
MURRAY WILSON TAYLOR/MARTHA ELOISE CAMPBELL
JOSEPH H.CAMPBELL/CLARISSA BRANNUM
THOMAS HENRY TAYLOR/ELIZABETH CAMPBELL
JOHN LIVINGSTON CAMPBELL/ELIZABETH McCOLLOUGH

NOTE - Joseph H. Campbell and Elizabeth Campbell are brother and sister - does anyone know what the "H" stands for?

Any ideas on the early death would be appreciated!

Thomas Henry TAYLOR b.1831 - who is his father?

I am researching my TAYLOR ancestors from Ohio, mostly in the Auglaize county area. My gr-gr-grandfather is THOMAS HENRY TAYLOR (1831-1889)m. ELIZABETH CAMPBELL(1833-1913); They are both buried in Shinbone Cemetery/Olive Branch Church. They had 6 children, three buried in Shinbone (Martha L., and twins Adah Rae & Lillie Mae) three lived to adulthood: John Henry(1857-1909), William Perry(1861-1944) and my gr-grandfather MURRAY WILSON TAYLOR (21 Dec 1861-17 Nov 1924) - my gr-grandmother was MARTHA CAMPBELL TAYLOR.

I am uncertain who is Thomas Taylor's father/mother and siblings. Online research by others seems conflicting, and I cannot find verification, such as a will or family bible. In a Shinbone Cemetery transcription, a HENRY TAYLOR died 9/21/1845 58y2m1d which would make his birth abt 1787 - the right time frame.

I also find HENRY TAYLOR in the 1840 census – OHIO – ALLEN – Duchonquet listing two males ages 5-10 (Thomas would be 9), one 10-15, one 15-20, one 20-30, one 50-60.

In 1850, there is no Henry Taylor in Duchonquet, but there is a JANE TAYLOR, age 35, who has 4 boys, 5 girls ranging in age 3-15. In 1850, I find THOMAS TAYLOR, age 19, in Wapakoneta working as a laborer.

I have several Allen/Auglaize/Shelby Ohio family lines who might have information that could help me.

TAYLOR:Murray Wilson Taylor/Martha Eloise Campbell
CAMPBELL: John Wallace Campbell/Zebulin Clarinda Rhodes
RHODES: Asa Waterhouse Rhodes/Sarah Applegate

TAYLOR:Thomas Henry Taylor/Elizabeth Campbell
CAMPBELL:John Livingston Campbell(1778-1860)/Elizabeth Hughey McCollough(1795-1866)
McCOLLOUGH:Archibald McCullough(1765-abt.1839)/Isabella Clenndinin(1770-abt.1840)

I have found in 1847 where Shadrach Montgomery, JP, presided over two marriages: Wm RYON Jr to Malissa TAYLOR and John TAYLOR to Irene Jane RYON.

Could be/are these Thomas Taylor's siblings? There is an Irene J. Taylor and John Taylor in Shinbone Cemetery that fits this age.

Anybody in the area or related have information, proof or anything will be appreciated. Thank you!
I am looking for information on my grandfather, born 1980. The most I have found so far is from the 1900 US Census/Auglaize Co. Father, Henry b. 1855; mother, Rebecca, b. 1866. Siblings to Ralph: Cora, b 1885; Florence b. 1895. US Census of 1910 from Licking Co OH shows Ralph living with a "brother" Ora Sherman. Ralph later married Ellen Dambaugh. Any help finding more information on Ralph's parents and finding any living relatives would be most appreciated. I am only aware of grandchildren in Cleveland area.

Anyone Named Wambold in Auglaize County?

Does anyone have any information about anyone named Wambold in Auglaize County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries?

In particular, I am looking for information about Milton Wambold and Lulu Cunningham, who were married in Auglaize County on April 3, 1895. Her family was from Auglaize County. I do not know where his family was from, but I believe it was the Philadelphia area or at least somewhere in Pennsylvania. Lulu had just turned 16 when she got married. I believe her husband was much older, perhaps in his 40's. I don't know Milton's dates or his parents' names or anything else about him.

Milton and Lulu had two children, Roger and Beulah. I have a fair amount of information about their later life. I know where Beulah is buried (Philadelphia), although I do not know where Roger is buried. Beulah married a man named Charles O. Nickle. Apparently they had no children. Roger may have been married to a woman named Anna. I don't know if they had any children.

By 1916, I think Lulu was living in Philadelphia with her mother (a widow) and her two children, but apparently her husband, Milton, was out of the picture. My hunch is that her husband was the reason for the move to Philadelphia and either died or they were divorced after they got there. Lulu died about 1949 in Philadelphia and is buried there, in the same cemetery plot as her mother and daughter Beulah -- but no husbands are there for any of the three of them. My understanding is that Beulah and her husband divorced.

I'm trying to find out about Milton Wambold's background and his later life. Where did he come from? What was he doing in Auglaize County (probably Wapak)? When did Milton and Lulu leave Auglaize County? Also, can anyone help me with more information about their marriage? (It's recorded in Book 7 of the Auglaize County Marriage Records.) Is there anyone who would be willing to check the local newspapers for something about their wedding, which took place on April 3, 1895? I don't know who officiated, but Lulu's grandfather was a minister named Jacob Wentz.

Can anyone point me to any directories or anything like that for the 1895-1916 period that might list them? It might be a little early for a telephone directory, but was there a city directory?

If anyone can help, I would be very grateful. Please feel free to e-mail me directly.

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com
Obit/Burial Look-Up for William Cunningham - died Feb. 2, 1887

My great grandfather, William Cunningham, died on February 2, 1887.

He died in Lima. I have a copy of his death record from Allen County. I don't know where he is buried. A very nice volunteer did a look-up for me and could find no obituary for him in the Lima or Allen County newspapers. This was a bit of a surprise, since he was both a lawyer and a Civil War veteran.

He, his wife and two children are in Auglaize County in the 1880 census. Both his family and his wife's family lived in Auglaize County for some years before 1880. His father died in Auglaize County in 1884.

I have a hunch that he is buried in Auglaize County and that there may be an obit for him in the Auglaize County papers.

Is there someone who could check? I would very much appreciate it. Again, his name was William Cunningham, and he died in Lima on February 2, 1887.

If more information would help, please e-mail me. Thanks!

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com

Epidemics in Auglaize county

My 2nd great grandmother, Mary Eversman Frische Taeusch (1815-1894) lost her first husband, William H. Frische, and two of their children all within a week in April 1853. While looking at information on my Stroh line I noticed that Conrad Stroh(1822-1874) and Catherine Elizabeth Eversman also had two children die in August of 1853. I know there was a major cholera epidemic in Ohio including Auglaize county in 1849. Has anybody come across info on an epidemic or other natural disaster in 1853 that might account for so much tragedy for these families?

I have in papers that my grandmother Edna (Heiser) Brandewie b. 1902 collected from “History of Shelby County” that Bernard Brandewie b. May 1856 in Auglaize County, Ohio son of Joseph Brandewie (b. 1820 in Germany), grandson of Anton Brandewie (b. 1798 in Hanover, Germany) was a “member of the board of education of the Dirksen special school district”. I have done a search for this school and cannot find anything. Does anyone know if there is any information for this school or have any suggestions where might I look?

If anyone has access to the 1860 census I would like to request a lookup for Walters family that would have been living in Auglaize County Ohio with a son Charles. Grandfather, Charles Walters, was born in Cridersville Auglaize County OH 1870. I have been given different years for his birth from family members 1868 to 1870. I have not been able to find any information about his parents or siblings. Charles' youngest daughter passed away last year and prior to her passing she gave me his birth information from her Family Bible as January 27 1870 in Cridersville, Auglaize Co., OH. Were there vital records for this time period and if so I would like to request a lookup for his birth records. I spoke to her on many occasions and she could not remember names of his parents or his siblings.

Thank you in advance for any help
Marriage Look-Up Request

I live in New York City. I would very much appreciate it if someone could do a marriage look-up for me for Auglaize County.

The couple was William Albert ("Bert") Cunningham and Emma Elizabeth Forrar. The time period would have been no earlier than sometime in 1900 and no later than summer 1903.

I am not sure the marriage took place in Auglaize County, but it's now the most likely venue. I always thought they got married in Shelby County, but there is no record of their getting married there.

I have a book of Auglaize County marriages, but it only goes through 1899. Thank you!

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com
John and Henrietta Bechstein are my great grandparents. They married in 1860 and were known to be in Auglaise County in 1870 and 1880. They had nine children --Lillie, Mary, Abbie, Matilda, Emma, Ida, Adam, Louise, and William. If you have anyone has information about this family while they were in Auglaize Co. it would be sincerely appreciated. John Bechstein was born in 1833, came to the US in 1852, married in 1860, died in Lorain County about 1922 and is buried in South Amehert Cemetery. We do not know why he took his wife from Lorain to Augulaise--or how he met his wife. (FYI John Bechstein has a twin brother (Jacob) who raised his family in Fulton County and died there about 1920.)
Thanks--Myrna

My Ladbergen ancestors stopped in Ohio on the way to WI and MN. My greatgrandfather Adolph Kipp came to the US with a cousin. They went to WI. My ggrandfather stayed and the cousin supposedly went to Ohio; per family story. My ggrandfather Harmeyer supposedly had relatives in Ohio. Probably cousins from what I gather. His wife's sister did live in New Knoxville and I have made those connections. Those connections were the Lagemann family. In the Schroer family I am just starting to research that. My greatgrandmother came with her husband, Heinrich Untiet to WI. I think there were cousins in OHIO. Any one researching these families?

The LDS family history center does not have a film of Will Book 1 for Auglaize county. Does anyone know if it still exists and they did not let them film it for some reason such as it being to fragile? If you write to Auglaize Co., can you get a copy of a will out of book 1? I need a will of William Lusk who died in 23 Sep.1850.
In Administrative Docket, Auglaize county, Vol 1 Pg. 135, it shows that Charles Lusk is made administrator on 21 Oct. 1850.

Death records for Wapakoneta - Auglaize County?

Hi, does anyone have access to either death records or some kind of information (birth, marriage, etc) other than census records for this county?

I'm needing to find out what happened to a whole family who was listed here in the 1880 census records. The names I'm looking for are Kenninger/Keninger - Amali (?); Flora E. (born abt. 1874 in Ohio); Marie (born abt. 1877 in Ohio); Andreas born abt 1879 in Ohio); & Anna Kenninger who was a blind widow in the 1880 census records.

Also wanting to know if there would be a marriage record for a Frank & Theresa Seifert (around 1880 or earlier)? I'm thinking Theresa's maiden name was Kenninger also.

Thanks SO much! I'm on the verge of a huge break-through!

Can anyone tell me whether there was a coroner in Auglaize County in the 1880's? Or refer me to a book or other source to explain how the cause of death was determined when it was not a death by natural causes or who determined it? Was it just the person's own physician?

If there was a coroner, does anyone know if there are records still in existence?

Feel free to contact me privately.

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com

Is there a record of births in Auglaize Co. for the 1870's? I'm trying to find a birth record for my wife's great grandfather Dudley Burton. His mother Nancy was living with an uncle, Luke Burton, in Auglaize Co. in the 1870 census. She was age 20 and unmarried at that time. We believe Dudley was born in 1874 as listed on his draft record. By 1880 Nancy was living with another uncle Thomas Powell in Pickaway Co. and Dudley was age 6. We need Dudley's birth record to try to find out who his father was. Was it a cousin with the same last name? Dudley's death record lists him as John with no last name listed. Sure could use some help to find out if Dudley was born in Auglaize Co.. Thanks, Jerry Philpot.

Werner Family Bible records available

                        10 January 2006
I have in my possession the Werner Family Bible that came over with the Werner family in the late 1800s. I have put in a lot of time translating, from handwritten German, the names, dates, and Bible verses written in the front and back blank pages. The Bible was printed in Stuttgart, Germany in 1848. The book's condition is fair. Much of the handwritten data is blurred and waterstained so the local Mormon German translator did the best job she could.

I am seeking a notorius (easy to locate) website, with any good search engine, that can be the repository of the English translation as well as the German writing both original photos and typed up via a word processor. The data can be placed on a disc and mailed to whomever.

These Werners came from Tuttlingen, Germany and many of them settled in Auglaize County, more specifically St Marys. Bear in mind the same data may also be placed in a my local Mormon Family History Library (not a Mormon).as a book in the near future.

For you see I am a member of the Werner-Wagner family of St Marys. My father was William Jacob Wagner born in St Marys and his mother was Clara (Werner) Wagner and his father Clarence Wagner.

Got any good ideas as to what to do with the Bible data? I notice most of the Ohio Gen. societies are resources only.

Thank you. Roger Alan Wagner in Los Angeles.
And yes, I am quite familiar with St Marys and environs. Also I have the final work by Ray Buckingham (married to Edith Wagner) who is the author of the Wagner and Werner families' history in America. Ray and wife Edith are deceased and are buried in Delaware, OH. His son Gene also has copies. I hope your local society already knows about his work. Yes??

William Cunningham and Cinderella Wentz

Jacob W. Wentz was born Sept. 12, 1819, in Pennsylvania. He married Mariah Wagner on February 25, 1847. Jacob was a minister. I believe they lived in Auglaize County, probably St. Marys. They were my great-great grandparents.

Jacob and Mariah had nine children, one of whom, Cinderella, married my great grandfather, William Cunningham. I do not know anything about William's ancestry. My hunch is they married about 1872-1875 and lived in St, Marys.

I believe William and Cinderella had several children, one of whom was my grandfather, William Albert (Bert) Cunningham, who was born about 1878 in Auglaize County, probably St. Marys, and died in St. Louis, Missouri about 1918.

I would very much appreciate hearing from any relatives or anyone who is researching either the of these Wentz or Cunningham families or has any other information. Thanks very much!

Rich Cunningham
richcunninghamny@aol.com

Patrick S. Kearns

I am trying to find more information on a Union soldier - Patrick S. Kearns. He was in the 188th Ohio Infantry with the rank of Private. The 188th was organized at Camp Chase, Ohio and mustered in on March 4, 1865 and mustered out on September 21, 1865. My great grandfather, Patrick S. Kearns was born about 1832, lived in Auglaize County for a time and I am wondering is this Patrick S. Kearns is him. I have found my grandfather in the 1850 census and 1880 census but can't seem to find him elsewhere. There are so many resources out there I don't even know where to start looking.

Thanks.
