Hi Dan,

I am actually not a Veit descendant. Over the years I was uncovering a lot of hometowns for other Fryburg area immigrants as I was looking for my ancestral hometowns, and it became my personal mission to try to uncover as many hometowns of Fryburg area immigrants as I could. Several years ago I placed a copy of what I had in the Wapak library, although an updated revision is overdue.

For the Veits, I cannot take credit for being the first to uncover the hometown, however there are a couple of contradictory sources. In the Thursday September 13, 1897 edition of "The Auglaize Republican" on page 5 column 3 is an article about the golden wedding anniversary of Valentine and Catharine Veit. Here it is stated that Valentine was born at Bischofsheim, Bayern (i.e. Bavaria). When Valentine died his death certificate and his interment record at St. Joseph Cemetery both list his place of birth as Schoenau. While they are only about 5 miles apart, Bischofsheim an der Rhön and Schönau an der Brend are two distinct towns and cannot both be the birthplace of Valentine. So, when I was at the Catholic Diocesan archives in Würzburg a couple of years ago I tried to verify which town was correct.

I was unsuccessful finding a trace of the family in Bischofsheim. However, Bischofsheim was apparently the seat of the local court, similar to our county seat, and I suspect the information in the anniversary article came from Valentine stating he was from Landgericht Bischofsheim, which I would equate to us saying we are from Auglaize County or Shelby County, etc.

I had better luck in Schönau. Although I didn't find a record of Valentine's baptism, I did find his three younger siblings. It was disappointing not to find Valentine, but things got more perplexing when I looked for the marriage record of the parents and found they were married in 1828, five years after Valentine was born. Hmm. The marriage record listed Elisabetha Sturm as being from Reyersbach, which is also close by and was another place to try looking. Here (Reyersbach was in the Catholic parish of Wechterswinkel) I found the record for Fridolin Sturm, born 11 Feb 1823 at 9:30 at night to the unmarried Elisabetha Sturm. He was baptized on 12 Feb at 11:00 midday with the schoolkid Valentin Müller as the godfather. Voila!

This is very good information. The records at the Auglaize county library for the Veit family needs updated. I am a descendant of Valentine Fridolin Viet and Catherine Herbst. There daughter Wilimenia Veit married my great great grandfather William Genry Fisher. Which line of descendants do you come from?

George Bernards Schnippel was born in 1804 in Voltlage Germany. That is all I know abbout him. I think he married a women with the last name of Steinke and they settled down near Frieburg, Ohio. A small town near Wappakonetta. His son John Henry Schippel married Florentine Reineke of Frieburg. There daughter Mary Ann Schnippel was my great great grandmother. Mary Ann Schnippel married Matthias Schneider of Frieburg. They had 15 children including my great grand mother Florentine (Flora) Schneider. My great grandmother Florentine married George Nicholas Fisher. They had 12 children including my grandmother Linda Marie Fisher. Linda Marie Fisher married Jerome Bernard Meyer of Minster Ohio. There son Ken Meyer is my father. If you have any information on the Ancestry of George Bernard Schnippel or any relating family, please let me know.
Johan Casper Tuente and Anna Marie Uhtman

I am looking for information on Johan Casper Tuente of Frietorf, Germany. Frietorf may be miss spelled. It is a small town within approximately 30 miles of the town of Sassenburg, Germany. Sassenburg is slightly bigger than Frietorf but smaller than Munster and Osnabruck. Sassenburg is a town west of Muster, Germany and south of Osanbruck, Germany. Johan Casper Tuente married Anna Marie Uhtman in the town of Sassenburg or possibly Freckenhorst. There marriage would have been around the 1820 and 1830's in Sassenburg. Johan Casper Tuente was born around 1802. They had several children including my great great great grandfather Henry Tuente. Henry was born in Freckenhorst, Germany. He had a brother Herman Tuente and several other brothers. Henry Tuente married Clara Franz. Clara was born in Saaenburg, her father was George Franz and her mother had the last name of Pals. Clara immigrated to the United States with her son Ben Tuente Sr., my great great grandfather. Clara some how ended up in Hartford, Kansas were she is now burried. Henry Tuente (her husband) stayed in Germany near Freckenhorst were he is burried. Ben Tuente Sr. (there son) moved to St. Rose, Ohio were he married a recent German immigrant named Anna Buddendict. There son Ben Tuente Jr was my great grandfather. Ben Tuente Jr. married Caroline Winner of Chickasaw, Ohio. There son Elmer was my grandfather. I am looking for any information on the ancestry of the Tuente, Uhtman, Franz, Pals and Buddendict families. I am sorry I do not have birth dates. 1802 is the best I can come up with and possibly a marriage between 1818 and 1835. Please send any information to me at danmeyer388@gmail.com

This is another long shot. I am researching the ancestry of my great great great grandparents Bernard Buddendict and Anna Baumer. I do not have there marriage or birth dates on me. They were both married and very possibly born in Ostbevern, Germany, a small town west of Osnabuck, Germany. There daughter Anna Buddendict immigrated to the united states in probably the 1860's I am assuming. SHe married Ben Tuente Sr. Ben was also a recent immigrant to the United states from the small town of Freckenhorst, Germany in the region (or Duchy) known as Westfallen at that time. Ben Tuente Sr and Anna Buddendict had several children and lived in St. Rose, were they are now burried. There son Ben Tuente Jr was my great grandfather. Ben Jr married Caroline Winner of Chickasaw, Ohio. Ben Jr and Caroline had one child, his name was Elmer Tuente. Both Ben Jr and Caroline are burried in St Nicholas Cemetary in Osgood. There son Elmer Tuente married my grandmother Leona Brackman. Elmer is now burried in St. Nicholas Cemetary in Osgood. Elmer and Leona had 4 children including my mother Carol. Carol married my father Ken Meyer of Minster and now reside in Osgood. I am looking for any information on Bernard Buddendict and Anna Baumer. I know they had at least two children. Anna and also Barny. Any information would be appriciated. Please email any responces to me at danmeyer388@gmail.com

This is a long shot but I have ancestry from Enningerloh, Germany. I small town on the outskirts of Munster, Germany. My ancestors from Enningerloh were Bernard Wieman and Gertrude Gerwin. There daughter Anna Christina Wieman married my great great great grandfather Blazius Fisher. They would have been married near Frieburg, possibly at St Peter and Paul's catholic church. There son William Henry fisher was my great great grandfather. He married Catherine Herbst of Frieburg. There son George Nicholas Fisher was my great grandfather. He married Florentine Schneider of Frieburg. My father called her Flora. My grandmother was the daughter of George Nicholas Fisher and Florentine Schneider. My grandmothers maiden name was Linda Marie Fisher. She married my grandfather Jerome Bernard Meyer. There son Ken Meyer is my dad. I am sorry I do not have dates. Don't have my info on me. Blazius Fisher was born around 1800, 1801. Christina Wieman would not have been born too much later than Blazius. I am guessing that Bernard Wieman and Gertrude Gerwin would have been married near Enningerloh around 1800, possibly 10 years later or earlier. I am guessing the 1790's is when they were married. I am also guessing there births to be in the 1760's or early 1770's.
The name Botkin has appeared many times in my search of my Scott family in Auglaize County. My gg-grandfather was Absalom Scott who farmed south of Wapakoneta from 1845 till his death. Richard Botkin was one of the administrators of my ggg-grandfather's (George Scott) estate when he died in 1840 in Shelby County, Ohio. Auglaize was not formed till a few years later. There is a book in the Family Search library that mentions several families named Botkin. The book is call, "Captain Samuel Elliott, Pioneer and his descendants. It mentions several Botkins that married into the Elliott and Parr families. The book is digital and may be read online. Also at the Family Search catalog site it mentions other genealogies about the Botkin family. They aren't digital, however you might find them helpful. This may not be the family of Botkins you are looking for as I had no idea they were Native American Indians. Good luck in your search.

I have been told that my gg-grandfather, Absalom Scott, from Auglaize County Ohio went to California during the gold rush, and after a few years returned home to Ohio. Is there any documentation in Auglaize historical records listing residence of the county who went to California?

Seeking information on Mittendorf family - prior to 1848

My Great-Great Grandfather lived in what is now Auglaize County prior to 1848. This based on a son's claim to being born in 1845 in Wapakoneta. I believe his name was Dedrick or Frederick Mittendorf. I also believe that his wife's name was Dorothea. They had four sons: George (b. 1840), William (b.1842), Theodor (b. 1845) and Frederick (b. 1847). Dedrick or Frederick died in either 1847 or 1848. I have searched Census records and been unable to identify this family. I am looking for any information that may hep. (the Frederick Mittendorf in Pusheta in the 1840 census has children and does not match family records.) Thanks

I am doing research on Jacob and Maydeline Long. They came over from Bavaria in 1848 and lived in Wapakoneta up until 1870's. I've been unable to find them in the census in 1850. Which they may have not been in Ohio yet.
I assume they were married here in the states going by the census records.
I've been able to trace baptism records through Ancestry on all of their kids.
How can I trace them further there and see if I can trace them back to Germany. They were Catholic. Is it possible there are any church records on their marriage if they were married there?

Thanks

My parent's names were Dave and Dorothy Vilen from Hallock, Minnesota. I can't say that I really remember them as I was quite young. I am 67 now and live in Hopkins, MN. Chief Whitefeather used to bring me lovely gifts. I remember some of the dresses. I found an address for Teyet Ramar in Sun Lakes, AZ and have written a note to him to see if he is one and the same.
So fun to see your entry.

Hi - I have been to the diocesan archives in Würzburg and have found some info on the Veit family in the Catholic church records of Schönau and Reyersbach.
Thank you so much for your time on this. Now that I know when John Fred Frey died, I might be able to find where he is buried, so I can find out how old he was when he died, as to calculate an accurate birth. Once I have that I can search the German records and see if I can find a birth or baptism for him & they usually list parents. Your findings today have been most helpful, and if you find anything else, please let me know. I would love to know though, what is the source of your findings? Is it available on the internet on by inter library loan? ~Twyla~

Seeking info

I'm looking for information on John F. Frey and his wife Magdalena, both born in Germany. As early as I can find them at this time is the 1870 census in Auglaize county, Ohio. They are there until their deaths. John was born May 1832 and Magdalena was born in Dec 1831. She was buried in Elm Grove in 1911. John died between the 1900 and 1910 census'.
Their children were:
~John Frederick Frey (1857-1942) who married Ida Jane Reeves;
~William Frey/Frei (ca 1862);
~Magdalena Frey/Frei (ca 1864);
~Christian Frey (1866-1932) who married Minnie;
~Eliesabeth Frey/Frei (ca 1868), she shows in the 1880 census, but isn't present in the 1870 with the family; ~Christina Frey/Frei (ca 1869);
~Carl F. Frey/Frei (ca 1873);
~August Lewis Frey (1875-1928) who married Grace Standish; ~Matilda Frey/Frei (1880-?);
~3 unknown children, or 4, if this Eliesabeth isn't actually their child. Magdalena was the mother of 12 children with 7 living, according to the 1900 census.
Does anyone know who John F.'s parents were? Or Magdalena's maiden name? I know Frey/Frei was a popular surname in Germany, and its spelling variations can be confusing.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I am confused. Is this concerning Chief Whitefeather or the DeGroat name. I just ran across your questions and I am not sure if I had contacted you or not since it has been over a year and ahalf.
