Charles E. "Chuck" Benepe

Charles E. "Chuck" Benepe, 71, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio following an extended illness.

Chuck was born on July 18, 1941, in Ashland, Ohio to Edward M. and Barbara A. Boley Benepe.

He graduated from Ashland High School, and worked for 30 years at the Mansfield News Journal where he worked his way up to Press Room Foreman.
He went on to work at the Cleveland Plain Dealer, retiring after 12 years.

He was a member of the Teamster's Union.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, mushroom hunting, and boating.
In his younger years, he was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed motorcycle riding.
Chuck was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, and Indians, along with the Cincinnatti Reds.

He loved his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda Baker Benepe; four children, Greg (Lorilynn) Benepe of Shelby, Ohio, John (Melanie) Benepe of Shiloh, Jodie (Mike) Holzworth of Mansfield, Ohio and Teresa (Matt) Lucius of Canal Winchester, OH; three grandchildren, Michael Holzworth, Alyson Holzworth, and Logan Benepe; one step-brother, James Renner of Mansfield; one step-sister, Barbara Blevins of Mansfield; and two nephews, Scott and Don Benepe of Columbia, South Carolina.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Richard Benepe; two step-brothers, Joel Renner and Jerry Renner; and one step-sister, Joanne Vergelli.

Calling hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East (St. Rt. 430E), Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m, with Pastor Timothy Overly officiating.

Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery.
