I’m researching George W. White, an artist who lived most of his life in Butler County, Ohio. Born in 1826 in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio, he died in 1891, probably in Hamilton. He was married in 1866 to Mary A. Crane (abt. 1830-1872). They had a son George W. C. White, born 28 July 1871, probably in Hamilton, who was living in Cincinnati in 1900. The Butler County Historical Society in Hamilton and the Miami University Art Museum in Oxford, Ohio, have some of George W. White’s paintings. Where are other works of art by George W. White today? What became of George W. C. White after 1900?
Here’s a list of some of George W. White’s portraits and where they are hold today. They depict both famous people and local residents. White also painted landscapes and religious and mythical scenes.
Does anyone know of other portraits by George W. White? Where are the paintings listed under “location unknown”?
