ATWELL-JOHNSON, Laura Mae 93, a loving aunt and a gentle hearted soul departed this life on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.
Laura was born July 22, 1919, in Champaign county, Ohio.
Laura was the oldest of three born to Carris and Pearl (Fullen) Atwell.
Her brothers, Carris Jr. and Hobart, as well as, her parents preceded her in death.
After graduating from high school, Laura moved to Springfield, Ohio.
Laura was married to the love of her life, Burton Johnson, who passed away in 1982.
Laura worked at Koehler Hardware as a secretary-treasurer (bookkeeper) for 26 years.
As a child she attended Honey Creek Baptist Church outside of Christianburg.
After moving to Springfield, she became a faithful and dedicated member of Trinity A.M.E. Church.
Laura believed in being an active member in her church and community. she was a member of the Dorothy Bayless Missionary Society, Lay Organization, and a Class leader at Trinity AME Church.
Laura was a member of the Retirement Set and Corresponding Secretary for the East-End Neighborhood Association. Cherishing her memory are three nieces Kathleen (Jude) Ezeh of Arlington, TX, Cheryl (John) Warren of Oakland, CA, and Patricia (Lesley) Edouard of St. Louis, MO., two sisters-in-law Vera "Bunnie" Atwell and Margie Johnson.
Lauras loving smile and sweet spirit will forever be remembered by local and area nieces and nephews; Ruth Porter, Eleanor Warfield, Mary Gray, Ellen Johnson, Naimah "Sissy" Ali, Mary "Mickie" Hawkins, Ted Rice, and Edwin "Eddie" Clark.
Laura will be deeply missed by special friends Marjorie Jones, Geneva Clouser, Mary Koons, Penny Davis, Leroy Gaines, several step grandchildren, step great grand children, her Trinity AME Church family, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 24 11:00 -1:00, with the home going celebration at 1:00 at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 554 Selma Rd., Rev Dwight Smith, officiating,
Interment Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield, Ohio.
