James Fortune, Retired Teacher, Physician, Dies at West Lafayette
James W. Fortune, 84, a retired school teacher and physician, died at the Norris rest home in West Lafayette at 5:30 a. m. Saturday following a year's illness.
He was born in Jackson township Jan. 17, 1861, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Fortune, and on Dec. 22, 1888, was married to Ella R. Haines, who surives in Dayton.
In 1891 he graduated from the Starling Medical school, Columbus and for a number of years practiced medicine and taught school in Coshocton county. Besides the widow he is survived by four sons, John and Ross Fortune, both of Canton, Arthur Fortune, Beaver Falls, Pa., and Herbert,
Cleveland; three daughters, Myrtle 'Fortune, Columbus, Gertrude Fortune, Dayton, and Mrs. Edith Stadler, Olmstead Falls, O.; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren
and a brother, George Fortune, Coshocton. Funeral services will be held at the Dawson funeral home, Coshocton,
at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday in charge of Rev. John Shanley, pastor
of the Baptist church. Burial will be in Prairie chapel cemetery. Friends may call at thehome
