IDA JEAN VAHCIC , 67, WAS JONES DAY AIDE, SOPRANO
Plain Dealer, The (Cleveland, OH) - Thursday, April 14, 1994
Ida Jean Vahcic worked for nearly 40 years at Jones Day Reavis & Pogue in Cleveland where she was first a legal secretary and then the longtime administrative assistant to the firm's managing partners. She reported to Allen Holmes and briefly, until her retirement in 1987, to Richard Pogue, during the transition period when he became managing partner.
She worked as the right hand to the two men who oversaw the firm's expansion to a national firm, beginning with Holmes' initiative in 1973, which saw the opening of a Los Angeles office.
Outside her high-pressure work environment, Mrs. Vahcic sang as a soprano soloist for Shoregate United Methodist Church and as a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus.
Mrs. Vahcic , 67, of Willowick, died at her home Monday of cancer.
She was born in Cleveland and graduated from John Hay High School. She went to work for the firm when she was 20.
Her singing was long admired, but many of her fans had trouble remembering her married name. So she and her husband, John, settled on the moniker Jean Warren, a name they picked out of the air. She appeared under that name in various concerts at area churches.
Mrs. Vahcic is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean Pierce of Stow, and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 7 p.m today at Shoregate United Methodist Church, 30500 Bayridge Blvd., Willowick. Arrangements are being handled by Jack Monreal funeral home, E. 320th and Vine Sts., Willowick.
