WILLOUGHBY – Ray J. Modic, 83, was born on Aug. 3, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Frances (Tercek) Modic and was a Lake County, Ohio resident for over 50 years.
He passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his residence in Willoughby, Ohio.
He was the beloved husband of
62 years to Harlene E. (Thorne-McCain) Modic; loving father of Bryan R. Modic of Willoughby and Brett (Linda) R. Modic of Poland, Ohio; cherished grandfather of Jason, Jennifer, Lindsay, Jessica, Brett, Jenna and Brianna; great-grandfather of Angelina, Brooke, Brayden, Marshall and Gianna; son of the late John and Frances (Tercek) Modic; brother of Jean Somrak of Willoughby and Milan Modic (deceased); and brother-in-law of Mary DeVries and Harry Somrak (deceased).
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Ray was a member of the Polka Hall of Fame, a member of the Polkats and a member of the Raymond’s, who played every Sunday on Polka Varieties.
He was very active in sports, both enjoying coaching and participating with his sons and grandchildren in all sports. He was a former member of the Willoughby South Boosters.
The family will receive friends at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., where a memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be private.
