This actually isn't my girl - believe it or not, Delilah McKinnis married John Lytle in Hancock Co and Delilah McGinnis married John Lighttle in Fairfield Co right around the same time period. However, I know it's not "my" Delilah. McKinnis was having her children with Lytle before McGinnis even married Lighttle in Fairfield Co. Serious coincidence, right?

I found this death certificate for William Lytle, who I think may have been their son. The coroner may have heard Delilah's name wrong. If it is, it will solve the spelling mystery.

I'm also looking for information on Delilah McGinnis b. 1804 - 1810. She was the daughter of William and Hester. She married John Lighttle / Lyttle / Little (I've seen the name spelled all ways) 2 Jun 1832 in Fairfield Co. Delilah and John shared guardianship of her young sister Lydia, and I've found detailed partition records regarding the legality of splitting and selling Lydia's inherited land. I also have found the sale of the lands by Delilah and John to Robert Black in 1838.

After 1838 I can find no record of Delilah or John anywhere. If anyone has any information at all (death, burial, children), I would greatly appreciate it. I am at a dead end with this branch.

Thanks in advance!

That's wonderful information - thank you! I've traced Lucy as well; she caught my eye when I saw that she was living with a foster family in the 1850 Census. There are actually 4 separate McGinnis children that are living with foster families sprinkled in Fairfield and Hocking county. I believe they are all children of Harvey McGinnis, my ancestor, whose wife died between the Census' of '40 and '50. Harvey is living with a 2nd wife and their natural children in the 1850 Census, leading me to believe that the children from his 1st wife were "farmed out."
I have been trying to find records (death, marriage) that would establish paternity for these children, but haven't had any luck as of yet.
I will check the Mercer Co. lead - thanks so much!

PS - if you're interested, Lucy married John Barr, had two children by him, was widowed young, and raised the children alone, dying at the age of 39. She's buried in Fairfield Co.

John Kreidelbach and Dortha Mundschauer (biog sketch)

Annie, I was interested to read your message in response to my posting. Mrs. Marietta Beery Fletcher (DAR ID Number 51782), great-granddaughter of John Kreidelbach and Dortha Mundschauer, posted a message through Ancestry.com that John "was born in Germany; removed to Ohio in 1810, and died in Fairfield County". jackhodges@carol.net, a descendent of John's daughter, Mary Cradlebaugh, posted a message through RootsWeb WorldConnect that "Dorothea Moonshiner" and "John Kradlebaugh" moved "in 1802...to Breman, Ohio...[brubaker2.FTW]". Their older daughters, Mary and Catherine, were born in Washington County, PA in 1784 and 1789, respectively, so it's possible that one of Andrew's younger sisters, Susan and Elizabeth, was born in 1806. I don't have a birth date for Andrew, but he is listed in the War of 1812 Muster Rolls as a Private who served in the Rangers Company and as having married Margaret Martin in 1816 so I'm guessing he was born in the early to mid 1790's. He died "ABT 1844" according to a posting through Cyndi's list. Andrew did live in Circleville. Of Andrew and Margaret's seven children only John and Jack remained in Circleville after marrying. William, Samuel and Leoline (and her husband, Ira Lewis) all went to Genoa Carson Valley in Nevada, a trip that was not undertaken over land at that time, but by ship around Cape Horn to San Francisco. Joseph, a "singer", went to Mississippi. Harriet married my great-great-grandfather, Robert Wilson Evans, and moved to Bloomington, Illinois sometime after the birth of firstborn Robert Francis Evans in Circleville. She died in Carthage, MO on August 24, 1899.
That's the extent of the information that I have about Andrew Cradlebaugh, although I do have quite a bit on his descendents through Harriet, of course, and limited information about his descendents through his other children. Aside from some military records and a few other reliable sources, very little of the information I have can be considered primary. Still, it's pretty interesting and does gives us something to go on to learn more. I will be changing over to another ISP in a couple of months. If you will send me your direct email address rather than going through the message board, we have a better chance of keeping in touch even after I've changed my email address. I look forward to hearing from you and would love to learn more about how your family is descended from Andrew.

The judge also had a son named Andrew, but he was born in 1852.
Andrew Jackson Cradlebaugh had a son named William born in 1878 who married Mary Ann Graham and had at least one child, Charles Oscar Cradlebaugh, but that is the end of my knowledge on William.

In the 1850 census of Marion Twp., Hocking County, Ohio, my ancestors, Robert and Ann Graffis had a Lucy McGinnis, age 10, living with them. I wonder if she was a sister of your Bartlett McGinnis. I have no idea what the connection is of my ancestors to Lucy.

I know that Robert and Ann's son, Oliver Graffis moved to Mercer County, Ohio along with his wife and her entire family, around the 1860's. Seems like a lot of families from Fairfield & Hocking Counties ended up there. Maybe your Bartlett went there first before moving on to Van Wert. Just a guess.

I think the idea that harriet is the daught of andrew is correct.I don't know if you have ever been to the cemetery that she is buried at, but i went to circleville yesterday looking for john cradlebaugh, a utah judge and senator. he is burried there with his wife(angeline ring) and other children. Andrew is also burried their however, he does not have a stone. The people listed as children of his on the list i have of cemetery records are James and John. A harriet, andrew j, juanita, mary jane, and william are also burried however they do not have stones. There are a few other people burried here that are children of the senator or andrew J. If my memory is correct i am fairly certain that there were Evans burried next to harriet with the same type of stone. i now know why and who they were. andrew's wife is also burried their. the name of the cemetery is called Forest cemetery. If you are interested in where andrew's father John is burried i also visited their yesterday and can tell you were his stone is. He was moved to Grandview Cemetery in bremen outside of lancaster, ohio around 1908. I hope this helps. Have you ever heard of an Anthony? I believed lived with Andrew for a period. I think Andrew was his uncle. If you have ever heard of him let me know. Thanks.

Perhaps this will help:
From Crossroads & Fence Corners Vol II by Charles R. Helmick of Baltimore, OH.

Genealogical Abstracts (as above) Vol V 1896-1900
Pg 125 June 28, 1899 History of VanMetre and Pearse family records and relatives. On pg 127 it says Col John VanMetre's daughter married William SELBY and moved to Peoria Illinois.
Then on pg 164 - July 20, 1900 - Cynthia Ann Van Meter obit. She married John Shrieves Jr and had 17 children. Lists relatives including a niece Mrs. Sarah SELBY of Princville, ILL.
There are some references in estate & wills to Selby. Thomas Jr, Ralph, George and I think John. Also some in Lemuel Allen estate. For what its worth.

Thought these might give you a few clues to follow. M Calvin

Many Thanks. If you are able, please could you give me further help or guidance. Working on 'balance of probability' re:father of my Gr. Grandmother. All evidence so far pointing same way. Finding location of her marriage would be a great help. I have= Married Dec.27, 1844 Fairfield County by John Swayze JP [with lines from father, but no father's name recorded.] Also another of same surname, could be her sister, married Jan. 1845, also with lines and by John Swayze JP. 'Proposed' father lived Pickerington 1840/50 and onward. My Gr. grandmother lived Fairfield with husband and son in 1850. The son lived Pickerington with a guardian 1860-[his father died and my Gr.grandmother re-married]. Do you know of any way to find where John Swayze would have been performing marriages at the appropriate time? Only other info. on 1850 Census to give any clue to where in the county it was is John Baird asststant marshal then typed number 144 preceded by handwritten 287 - don't know if this is of any help with finding locations. Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks again for census help.

John Cradlebaugh is buried in Granview Cemetery in Bremen, Fairfied Co. Ohio. He originally settle somewhere in Pennsylvania. They had a daughter in PA as late as 1806, so they did not go to Fairfield until then at least. E-mail me you address and I will tell you what I find. I am also trying to link to his son Andrew. My mother says we are descended from him. Do you know if Andrew lived in Circleville? Mom said he owned a hotel there for a while.
I think John's wife, Dorothea must have died in PA because she is not buried with John.
Old Fairfield Co. Schools--One Rooms, Catholic, Etc. UPDATE

Many people have asked why I have not included One-Room Schoolhouses, Catholic and private schools, higher education schools, and schools still in use on my website

http://www.oldohioschools.com/fairfield_county.htm

Now people are going to have the chance to sponsor a school they would like to see added.

This website was my final project for my master's in education degree in 2008. I had to limit the scope of this project to schools which are demolished, abandoned, or closed and reused in some way. I have also added "endangered" schools as ones that will fall into one of the first three categories after current building projects/levies are finished.

I am offering a school sponsorship for $5.00 per school listing for those who would like to see their cherished one room, Catholic, or still-in-use school added to this site.

As you can see from the site, the main information I need is:
School Name
Location (exact address if possible otherwise road or intersection is good)
City or Township
Year built (major additions are also noted here)
Year closed OR year Demolished
If closed, then current use is also needed (i.e. abandoned, private
residence, church, etc).

I can also put up to 4 pictures for each one.
1. The Main picture-- if currently standing I like this to be what it looks
like right now. If gone, then the best known picture of it.
2. I can link the BUILT year to another old view of the building.
3. I can link the DEMOLISHED or CLOSED year to the school actually being
razed or what it looked like at the time it closed.
4. I can link the *Gone* to an empty lot view of what the current site looks
like or link it to another website, for example if it is now a church I can
link the *Church* to the church's website.

I put over 5000 miles on my car each summer traveling around getting photos and I just recently had to upgrade to a larger server because I have so many schools state wide featured.

If you are intersted in sponsoring a school listing for your county, please contact me at aaronturner@neo.rr.com

I will also list your name, if you want, as a sponsor under the picture. Again $5.00 per school for a permanent spot on the site. Thank you for your interest and I will begin building a spot for your school as soon as I hear from you.

Thank you very much for the information. Every clue helps.

I think Anexey M Selby was probably the eldest child of Richard and Sarah (Cade) Selby. They had married in VA in 1822 and Anexey was born in VA in 1823. I found a granddaughter of Richard and his second wife living in Anexey's household in 1880 which indicates a probable family connection, especially when she later married and named her son after Anexey.

Anexey had two younger brothers and a sister who have not been identified.

Thanks again for taking the time to provide a response.

Thank you for your help. I was unsure of the Rush surname. An elderly blind gentleman named Jacob Rush was living in the Selby household in 1860. There was also a young girl, Arabella Scott, living in the home. Therefore, I think your information is correct about the maiden name of Scott for Harriet. It is unclear if Jacob Rush was related.

Anexey M Selby, his sister, two brothers, and their parents are the elusive ones as I can find almost nothing about them. After Sarah Cade Selby died ca 1832 in Canaan Twp, Athens, OH, Richard married Elizabeth "Betsy." Betsy gave birth to four children in Canaan Twp and another two in Wood County, VA. These younger children are known.

Thanks again for helping with Harriet. Perhaps someone else may have information on Anexey M Selby and his siblings.

I have an Anexey M Selby and wife Harriet (nee Rush?) living in the area of Canal Winchester in 1850 census until ca 1910. Anexey M Selby was born 1823 in (Randolph ? Co) Virginia and died before 1900 in Fairfield/Franklin Co,Ohio.

The parents of Anexey M Selby are believed to have been:
Richard Selby 1800 VA - ca 1864 Wood Co, VA;
Sarah Cade 1800 VA - ca 1832 Canaan Twp, Athens Co, OH.

Would someone have information on this couple or be able to check a local history for them? Thank you.

Sept. 15, 1933
Rev. Wm. H., b. June 18, 1865, d. Nov. 9., 1933
There is also some more Eck's but they are for the late 1800's.
