My 2x great-grandfather Stinefeld/Steinfield/Steinfeld emmigrated from Mecklenburg Schwerin sometime after his birth, about 1806, and before 1846. I have no further information on his family or departure from Germany or arrival in Ohio. There is a fair chance he may have been Jewish, but again I have no way to confirm this. There is no-one I know in the family who has this information, at least not so far as I can tell.
My FTDNA atDNA suggests i may have a gg-grandparent who could have been of Jewish ancestry. I recall having come across a Jewish Steinfeld family who arrived in Franklin County in the 1830-1840 time period. I'm wondering if there is a connection. I know my grandfather had family in the Columbus area, though it could have been his father's family and not his mother's family.
