Evelyn Cardwell Jones was born April 22, 1924, and passed away on July 1, 2014.
She was married for 30 years to Raymond Wesley Jones.
To this union was born three children, Adorea, Linda, and Ray Jr.
Evelyn was very selfless and loved her family dearly.
Evelyn graduated from West High School in 1942, Valedictorian of her class.
She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees from The Ohio State University where she was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Professionally, Evelyn was a Detective with the Columbus Police Department, an Elementary School Teacher and Principal, and Executive Director over 106 elementary schools for Columbus, Ohio City Schools.
She was also an Adjunct Professor at Capital University.
An active community member, Evelyn was appointed to The Columbus Metro Airport and Aviation Commission; Appointed Chairman, Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority; and a member of the Columbus Arts Council.
She enjoyed reading, painting, fishing and boating.
Evelyn especially enjoyed playing cards with her bridge club for 50 years, and her activities with the Columbus Chapter of The Carats.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents Theodore and Olivia Hale Cardwell, husband Raymond Jones, grandson Spencer, sisters Lillian, Barbara and Rosemary, brothers Edward, Robert, Richard, Ted, Kenny and Wendell.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Adorea Harris, Linda Moss Edwards (Bill), and Raymond Jr. (Lisa); sisters, Joyce, Arlene, and Elaine; brother, Harry; grandchildren Anya, Angela (Tony), Jason (Chass), and Lauren; six great grandchildren; cousins, Betty Lou Pyant, and Ruth Ann Gibbs.
Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Final arrangements entrusted to EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43215.
Calling hours are Monday, July 7, 2014, 11 a.m.-12Noon.
Service will be held immediately following.
Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
