DeFRANK Daniel L. DeFrank, age 92, passed away quietly on September 11, 2012 at home in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by his family.
Daniel was born on September 30, 1919 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, (Jefferson County) one of five children to parents Maria Ronaldo DeFrank and Paul DeFrank.
He attended Central High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, shipping out for service on the USS Iowa battleship the day after he married his devoted wife of 69 years, Norma Volpe DeFrank.
Daniel worked for Borden-owned Columbus Coated Fabrics for over 40 years and enjoyed an early retirement, during which he proudly wore his grandfather's hat.
He and Norma took their four grandchildren to Cincinnati Reds baseball games, to swim and play putt-putt golf, and hosted weekend sleepovers filled with pizza dinners and morning doughnuts and whiffle ball tournaments.
Daniel, called "Danny" by his baseball-playing friends and co-workers, was a fantastic ball player who loved the game all his life.
He played for St. Clair A.C. as a young man and then followed his grandchildren's games with fervor.
He and Norma were also avid bowlers, playing with the Independent Order of Forester League for years and amassing many trophies.
Daniel spent hours of fun through many years playing euchre with his family and friends, and worked crossword puzzles diligently for decades.
He is preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings and their spouses Anna Claar (Roscoe), Lawrence DeFrank (Helen), Francis Mazzone and sons, and Jenny Giuffre (Gus) and by his daughter and son-in-law Olivia DeFrank Charles and Michael L. Charles.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; son, Larry (Barb); granddaughter, Kimberly (Tracy) Younkin; grandson, Michael (Wendy) Charles; granddaughter, Stephanie (Joe) Miller; grandson, Chris DeFrank; nieces, Shirley (Jim) Halriter and Norma Jean Nappi; eight great-grandchildren; and great-nephews and nieces.
