ZANESVILLE: Richard William "Dick" Loos, 84, of Zanesville, Ohio died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in Westerville, Ohio.
He was born August 27, 1928 in Steubenville, Ohio.
Dick was the son of James Vern Loos (1997) and Antonia "Toni" Hauner Loos (1995) who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were his brother, James Charles Loos (1991) and his second wife, Nan Margaret Philby Sparrow Loos (2010).
Dick graduated from Wintersville High School and the College of Steubenville with a degree in Chemistry.
He was a standout pitcher for the College of Steubenville Barons and also for the Wintersville R.P.G. Coal team.
He also served in the Ohio National Guard.
After graduating, he worked as a metallurgical engineer at a Steubenville steel mill.
In 1956, he married Jacqueline Martin and had three children. He obtained a Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University. In 1965, he opened Loos Pharmacy in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
He served on the St. Clairsville-Richland School board, and was a member of various community organizations.
In 1978, he worked for the Bailey Drug Company in Zanesville, Ohio.
He married Nan Philby Sparrow in 1983 and until recently, lived in Zanesville.
He was a member of the Central Trinity United Methodist Church and was active in the church choir. He was a long standing member of the Grand Lodge F&AM, Ohio, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and various organizations in the Zanesville area.
He is survived by his children, Diann Kim (Paul) Shutway of Flushing, OHIO, Erin Kay Tracy of Powell, OH, Richard G. (Kathy) Loos of New Albany, OH; and his stepchildren, Michael (Michelle) Sparrow of Dublin, OH, Vicky (Dan) Cummings of Bath, MI, and Thomas (Stephanie) Sparrow of Rocklin, CA; grandchildren, Chelsea Conley, Emily Shutway, Lauren (Geoff) Tracy Kunkler, Nathan, Grant and Olivia Loos, Josh, Tyler and Kathryn Sparrow, Margaret and Danielle Cummings, and Liberty and Skyler Sparrow.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held at the Central Trinity United Methodist Church in Zanesville on February 17, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
