ZANESVILLE -- Gertrude Virginia Irvin Porter, 89, of Zanesville, died at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House.
She was born Oct. 13, 1912, in Licking County, near Gratiot, to the late Charles B. and Ethel L. McCammon Irvin. She was a member of Gratiot United Methodist Church since 1925, a past matron of Brownsville Order of Eastern Star Chapter 486 of which she was a member since 1946.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. L. Joe and Tammy Porter, Phillip and Sandra Porter, both of Zanesville and George Douglas and Marianne Porter of Westerville; five granddaughters, Kathy Cunningham of Galloway, Sally Weber of Gahanna, Stefanie Porter and friend Greg Smith of Detroit, Mich., Amy Porter of Zanesville and Cari Lynn Thornton of Jacksonville, Mich.; two grandsons, L.J. Porter II and fiancé, Elena Fana of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Phillip Allen Porter II of Columbus; two great-granddaughters, Josie Weber and Emily Thornton; two great-grandsons, Derek Schmidt and Andrew Thornton; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband George L. Porter who passed away March 2, 1992, her parents, two sisters, Gladys Swinehart and Georgia Hupp, three brothers, Frank Irvin, Ollie Irvin and Orton Irvin.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Carol Tong officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Fork Cemetery, Gratiot.
Eastern Star services will be held at 5:45 p.m. today.
