NEWARK: Esther Louise (Essie) Baumgartner, 101, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, January 14, 2013 at SharonBrooke after a brief illness.

Essie was born October 23, 1911 in Newark, Ohio to Ira and Rose (Wilson) Inlow.

Essie was the eldest of a family of seven girls and three boys,

Following her marriage to Joseph in 1929 they raised their family of eight children.

During her younger years, she quickly learned how to be a good cook and caregiver. When the 1918 flu epidemic struck, all of her family members including dad and mom were in bed with the flu. Essie, at the age of 7, was the only one who did not get sick and she was the caregiver for her mom, dad, and 3 siblings.

In addition to raising eight children, Essie worked at Pharis Tire and Rubber Co., The Elks Lodge, Campbell's Bakery on Maple Avenue, The Granville Inn, LK Restaurant, and Bummie's Hi-Spot.
She became well known for her baking skills, winning a 1st place blue ribbon at the Ohio State Fair for one of her pies which was submitted by the LK.

Essie is survived by 3 children, Gerald (Neva), Carroll, Ohio; Linda (Kenneth) Rhodes, Mount Dora, FL; Janet (Monte) Nagy, Newark, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Shirley (Joe, Jr.) Newark, Ohio and one sister Margaret Workman, Newark, Ohio; also 31 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, five children: Joseph, Jr., James, Jack, Donald, Rosemary (Ratliff), 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, siblings, Ralph Inlow, Dorothy Westenbarger, Alice Street, Russell Inlow (Bo), Doris Gaskella, Jean Linton, Robert Inlow, and Eleanor Van Voorhis.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt love and appreciation to the entire staff of SharonBrooke for providing a wonderful, loving home to Essie since 2006.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 at the NEWARK CHAPEL of VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main St., Newark, OH.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Pierce officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, OH 43058 who provided wonderful care and comfort.
