LANCASTER: Barbara M. Smith, 70, of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Pickering House Hospice.
She was born on December 24, 1942 to Wilma Josephine Blizzard Bowman and the late Max Edward Bowman.
Barb was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1961.
She retired from Anchor Hocking Glass, Lancaster, Ohio.
She was a volunteer in the PTO and a Girl Scout leader when her children were growing up.
She was a member of the VFW Post 1380 and the Women of the Moose.
Barb enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, swimming and watching hummingbirds.
Barb is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Smith; sons Bradley and Bryan "Bubba" Smith; daughter Becky (Johnny) Eisz; granddaughter Erica Eisz; brothers Richard (Linda) Bowman and Gary (Carol) Bowman; mother Josephine Bowman; special friends Sandy French, Kathy Dean and Doris Gaines; "favorite" cousin Ron Bowman and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Barb was preceded in death by her foster sister Wanoka Wright Hill; mother-in law Josephine Smith, father-in-law Paul Smith, brother-in-law Don Smith and sister-in-law Sharon Bowman.
A gathering to celebrate Barb's life will take place on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge at 1201 Sugar Grove Road SE, Lancaster, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to FairHope Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., or to any Girl Scout Council.
Barb's family would like to thank the staff at Lancaster Hematology-Oncology, Inc., Fairfield Medical Center, CaretendersVNA, and the staff of the Pickering House for their excellent end of life care provided to her during her illness.
