NEWARK, Ohio: Thomas R. Gerhart, 66, succumbed to the ravages of Advanced Agressive Supranuclear Palsy and peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Beverly J. (Bev) Gerhart; a son, Thomas Robinson Gerhart, Jr.; he is also survived by a sister-in-law, Carolyn Blair of Utica, Ohio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and Pat Mason of Newark; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Gerhart of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Averie and Dylan Gerhart; a brother, John Gerhart and sister, Susan Gerhart; and all VietNam Veterans, who are his true brothers and sisters.
Tom graduated from Utica Senior High School in 1964, attended Ohio State University but left college to join the United States Navy and serve his country in VietNam, where he was wounded in combat and received a Purple Heart.
He was a Senior Internal Auditor and employee of AEP for 42 years.
He was a member of The Utica United Methodist Church and The Mobile Riverine Force Association.
He loved fishing, football, and taking hand-in-hand walks with Bev.
At Tom's request, there will be no calling hours and he is to be cremated and his ashes scattered at the place where he and Bev had their first date.
