STRUTHERS – Anna “Amy” Margaret Elias, 89, died Saturday evening, March 16, 2013 at her home in Struthers, Ohio.
Anna, affectionately known as Amy, was born May 16, 1923, in East Palestine, Ohio a daughter of Robert and Jessie McKee Young.
She came to Struthers, Ohio as a young child and resided in Struthers the rest of her life.
A 1941 graduate of Struthers High School, Amy enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving in the Navy W.A.V.E.S. She served for two years in Bethesda, Maryland.
Amy also worked as a Kindergarten Tutor for the Struthers School System.
She was a member of the Struthers VFW Post No. 3538 Ladies Auxiliary, Struthers Eagles, Ladies Auxiliary, the Democratic Women’s Club, the Struthers Band Boosters, where she served as a band counselor at the Toronto, Ohio, Band Camp for many years.
She was a member of the Red Hats Society of Poland, Ohio and the Struthers Couples Club.
Amy was a member and Deacon of the Struthers Presbyterian Church, now known as the Struthers Parkside Church.
She was known for her famous potato salad, homemade chop suey and throwing great parties at least once a month for family and friends. Even the neighborhood children knew to visit Amy for an ice cold drink after playing hard at Mauthe Park.
Family will never forget vacations and story telling around the campfires until 5 a.m., at the cottage at Geneva-On-The Lake and President Campground at Tionesta, Pa., where they spent their summers after retirement.
Amy enjoyed life and lived life to the fullest.
Her family and friends will always cherish the wonderful memories of life with Amy and Emil.
Her husband of 55 years, Emil Elias, whom she married March 2, 1946, died May 28, 2001.
She leaves two daughters, Sandra (Angelo) Lucido of Struthers, Ohio and Kimberly (Drew) Mulichak of Lake View, N.Y.; two sons, Gene (Judy) Elias of Baldwinsville, N.Y. and John (Terry) Elias of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; one sister, Beverly (Ken) Lunn of The Villages, Florida; nine grandchildren, Dan, Mike, Tom, Shane, Josh, Brianne, Amanda, Andrew, and Ashley: and 13 great-grandchildren, Rachel, Daniel, Sarah, Megan, Michael, Jordan, Jonathon, Brandon, Cole, Sophia, Juliana, Alivia, and Aiden.
Besides her parents and husband, Amy was preceded in death by her brother, James Young.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, with Pastor James Berkebile officiating.
Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.
Friends will be received Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
